CQ's list of 23 is unimpressive! ... but you got to remember, he is not selecting for his starting roster. In fact he already knows his starting 11 from WC and is not going to change that. He is smart and understands he does not have sufficient time to make changes. Risk is too high!

Unless something drastic happens, the list of 23 is primarily to decide who is going to be seating on the bench and not who is going to be a starter.

So, although there are some questionable selections, I think we should just let him do his work. He knows better!

Iman Mobaali? When he was in top form and younger, he was neglected again and again. Today, when he is much older he is called?

And the best LB in Iran is passed over again? Where's Jamaati?

No Khalatbari? I guess when you want to park the bus, you might as well call defenders than useful strikers.

      Shit list
You are the one always talking about FORM of players. Now the 3 best CAM in the last months are invited and you completely ignore it and move on to the next thing.

You have been ranting about Sharifi not being invited. Its crazy how you don't even acknowledge his inclusion now.

So basically no Khalatbari and Jamaati make this a shit list.

For a guy that always talks about youth, you fail to mention that Sajjad (24) is the oldest striker on the list.

9 defenders invited, one of which is Hajsafi, so in reality 8. No mention of that.

Khandzadeh, Pouraliganji, Rezaeian, Nejadmehdi, are all 24 or under. No mention of that.

2 exclusions of your preferred players blocked you from logically looking at the rest of the list.

Doctor Doom, just a quick question. I'm sure you follow the IPL but do you actually watch it? And if you do, do you watch beyond the scope of Persepolis & Esteghlal matches?

Jamaati, while decent, is nowhere near the quality of past season. The only noteworthy exclusion is Khalatbari, and we've known for months now that he doesn't fit into CQ's plans.

As Ando Teymourian mentioned, CQ has invited a plethora of youngsters, some which I'm sure you've neither heard of or seen before. I just have a tough time understanding what it takes to satisfy you. It seems the only coach you've liked in the past 16-17 years was Ivic, and he was only in charge for 5 matches.

For the longest of time, you've wanted to see a new wave of players in Team Melli. Since the World Cup, we've seen frequent call ups in Ghafouri, Rafiei, Azmoun, Beiranvand, Pouraliganji, and Khanzadeh. That's nearly a quarter of the squad who have replaced older players such as Hadadifar, Ahmadi, Alenemeh, etc.

Because it is apparent that despite calling all these youngsters, when the games start, CQ will go back to the old WC squad.

Of course I am happy guys like beiranvand, Sharifi, ... are there. And it isn't as if he's done them a favor. They have truly earned their spot. To pass over them would have been a travesty, not including them.

The only silver lining is this opens the door for us (who don't have our blinders on and are not name-victims) to hope that he may actually given up on shojaei. Knowing CQ I doubt that is completely true. But hope springs eternal. If it turns out true, then kudos. Otherwise ....

Btw, I do watch Foolad's games. In fact if I watch one ipl game, it's usually Foolad's ... contrary to all the red/blue overhyped atmosphere of Iranian football.
And I see jamaati doing pretty well these Escalon too. He may have become even more active and his area of performance increased as now he pops up in midfield and even in attacks far more than before. Pretty much in the style of hajsafi.
furthermore He has matured and now has become even more balanced and responsible.

You're not wrong when you say that CQ is likely to revert back to his old line-up once the tournament starts. However, the players that are on the bench are indicative of the direction CQ wants to take the team following the Asian Cup. Just a little over a year ago (during the final three matches of WCQ), Jahanbakhsh, Azmoun, Pouraliganji, Rafiei, and Ghafouri were not even Team Melli players. Younger players like Haghighi and Hajsafi were benched in the place of Ahmadi and Masoud.

The likes of Nekounam, Ando, Hosseini, Sadeghi, and company won't be around forever and CQ knows this. The 'new face' of Team Melli won't be on display until the Asian Cup is over. However, CQ is correctly selecting the right players to place in the queue.

After Khalatbari was not invited to TM in WC I don't think he will be interested to play in TM and CQ knows it.
In this age he can only concentrate on his Club.

Actually a list without Masoud is a breath of fresh air.

On a serious note, I don't know most of these players so I cannot complain or be satisfied. About your remark about the in good form players, I think it shouldn't be the most important criteria. We all know that iranian players are inconsistent so they can be in good form now and be catastrophic 2 months after. The goal is to find the one that can be the skeleton of the squad for the future years (like ando, neku, etc...)

Hope you're right about this Nader jaan. I can certainly use a dash of optimism looking beyond the Asian Cup. My issue is that the Asian Cup will be a make or break for CQ, so the need for being progressive and innovative is there right now at this moment - he may not get a chance to do that later.

Khalatbari is 31. what do you mean at this age he can only concentrate on his club. He said some things about CQ after being excluded from WC, but he has always wanted to be part of team melli. His recent interview after his hatrick: Harkari bokonam Keirosh mara nemibinad...

I think Masoud is still a very valuable asset to team melli but off the bench not as a starter. However this squad is a mixture of our experienced players, plus our younger players from the league who have been performing well, and most of these players are likely to be the backbone of our team following the Asian Cup. I don't think its good to call up players just based on their names. Hashem Beikzadeh has been the worst player in IPL after the WCQ and he is still on the list.
