So when Dejagah and Gucci have only played in Arab leagues...this leaves me wondering about our overall preparation. Didn't Palestine play Uzbekistan...I am sure Uzbekistan would have taken Iran over Palestine any day...for f's sakes, what are we doing here besides pissing money we don't have down the toilet?
This camp is based on the same reason we headed to SA before the WC. To get used to the climate conditions in Australia as Iranian players have to get used to heat. And as Markar Of course it's not the best way to prepare for the AC and we could have headed directly to Australia, but due to the fact that we missed a lot of time in August/September, these friendlies should be ideal to compensate the lost time and friendly games. People have to know, that most of the friendlies before and after the WC were arranged by Carlos Queiroz's good connections (Trinidad, Benfica, Estoril, South African clubs).

Also as the TM players said, it was a good opportunity to get together as most of them were TM newbies (Nejadmehdi, Pouraliganji, Beiranvand). It's not a promising fact that many key players such as Haghighi, Dejagah, Azmoun, Jahanbakhsh and Ghoochannejhad don't have more than 10-20 caps at TM.
What matters is the result of their efforts in Australia. If Iran could fulfill their expectations, it's possible to talk about a sucsessful peraration. If not, there would not be much space left for excuses anyway

Oh I get why the camp is happening. What I don't understand, and you eluded to above is where are the key players? So we travel to SA with a squad in which more than 50% will likely not even make the plane ride to Australia...so who is getting used to the climate? Dejagah? No...Gucci? No...ARJ? No...so why not just have this camp is another warm location which players such as these can make it? Somewhere closer to the ME or even going to New Zealand a bit earlier than Australia...

They also not participated in the last SA camp due to club duties, but there is no clear answer on why the camp is being hold in SA and not NZ or ME, I think because of CQs good connections during his years in SA maybe?
But tbh I would have prefered Kish, if it wasn't for the climate conditions

Afaik, Markar stated that these opponents were an alternative for the game vs Qatar becuase of their african players, let's hope the local players get synced for the games against Palestine and Iraq and of course the AC

I'm quite confident there will be players who take profit from this camp to play at the AC as it happened in Brazil, who knows, maybe Mobali can replace Masoud

The reasons for this camp to be held in South Africa, is because of costs and ease. If they had to hold it in Kish (which were the other opportunity), and invite a team or two to play, the costs would have been too high, and there wasn't enough training fields available on Kish for this. Also, they got the trip to South Africa pretty cheap. This was just said by Kafashian himself in a interview.

Pros of club camps: playing experience, building chemistry, change of environment, picking the best players, experimenting tactics

Cons: low prestige playing against clubs, not as competitive as an international friendly, not having a full squad

Overall, I think it's better than nothing. At least Queiroz is setting these camps up.
