I understand why many people would love Khalatbari in TM (me included) but you have to understand how he doesn't fit in CQ's plans. Although he has flashy runs and contributes to attacking play whether it's being part of a play like the one vs. Uzbekistan, he tends to be a risky player for CQ's standards. Why? Because with the current team Iran has, KB is going to be the bench and when his team is down, he will be tempted to use him since he is one of the best attacking players in Iran. Why is this a problem? Players like him whether as super subs or starters don't always succeed and I've seen KB losing the ball in times of importance in TM games that could have been won in WCQ but he is at fault for dribbling too much that he loses the ball or plainly giving it away. Also, he's not the strongest players physically and the big Asian teams will likely muscle him out.
Assuming this, what puzzles me is why CQ is so gay for Shojaei. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player but he's failed big time when he could have had an impact with a trip, misplaced pass, etc when it comes to do-or-die TM games...

The two spots left open are actually for three players: Montazeri, Rafiei, and Pouladi.
Coaching staff still hasn't given up on Montazeri's injury and hoping to get him back. He is in the camp with the team.
Between Rafiei and Pouladi, Rafiei has a better chance of resolving his issue. We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.
Go IRAN!

Exactly 1/3 of the 21 man squad participated in the 2011 Asian Cup.
5 Players were in the 2007 Asian Cup squad
2 Players were in the 2004 Asian Cup squad
4 of the 2011 squad were also in the 2007 squad with Sadeghi being the only player from 2007 who was not in the 2011 squad, but included this time. He was also in the 2004 squad along with our only other player from that time, Nekounam.
Inclusion of Nouri and/or Mabali in the final 23 will of course change those stats. I did a quick count (so may not be 100% accurate) and it looks like Australia and S. Korea have 6 players from the 2011 squad, while Japan are the most "experienced" of the top 4 teams with 12 players from the last Asian Cup.
