    Asian Cup 2015.

Could Iran win this tournement? i say yes if South Korea and Japan are not on our road, btw Palestine is qualifies for the asian cup 2015, its the first time they are qualified in a major football tournement. Also North Korea is there and i predict some players will ask asylim in Australia.

Statistically they can win, but I wouldn't count on it.

Why?? The only major rivals is South Korea and Japan, forget Saudi Arabia they are in downfall and they are living a bad period, like i say before if they are not in the way the chances of winning are there, 1/4 and 1/2 finals there are not in the way we could easily make it to the finals. In our group there is U.A.U. Qatar and Bahrein, Persian Gulf group all they way, i hope Qatar will lose, also Kuwait is qualified this year and their have a bad team to think that in the 80's they were a superpower in Asia, they Asian Cup 1980 and did the World Cup in 1982, they fell down and did not recover yet. btw nobody seems to have any enthousiam, in a month from here the asin cup will start.

Korea and Japan are at a different level compared to us. Australia is the host. Forgetting the group stage, even if we have 60% chance of winning each of our three knockout games(still too high), then this leads to a probability of about 20%. I think the real chance is closer to 10-15%. That's not something I would count on.

Yes, we aren't in the same league with Korea! we won three consecutive victories against them. Our only threats are Japan and Australia (with home advantage).

Actualy South Korea are having trouble now, the golden generation is gone and now they are not as strong at they use to be, i predict a final between Iran and Japan, and a final victory of Japan, we will finish second on my predicition.

              Asian Cup 2015.

Possible Iran v Australia encounter would be a good match up.

The two sides haven't played each other since that famous night in Melbourne 17 years ago

Our only real competition should be Japan. I don't think Australia's coach has enough experience or ingenuity to challenge Iran or Japan and we've consistently shown we can beat S. Korea.

So, if our coaching staff can instill the belief that we can win this competition in our players, we have a pretty easy task to the semis for our first real challenge in the form of either S. Korea or Australia - both of which we should be able to get passed for the reason I mentioned above, for a final showdown with Japan.

This is the easiest Asian Cup draw we've had in a VERY long time, not facing any of the other powerhouses in the group stage or quarter-finals if we finish on top of the group.

Of course, if we're already preparing for justifications of our exit at the group stage, you can rest assured we won't be going any further than our self-imposed handicap.

Iran v Australia would be so epic and imagine we beat them again on their soil. I don't get excited about meeting Korea or Japan but I really want us to face off against Australia.

We will likely face them on Australia Day at the semis. Kicking them out on that date would frustrate them even more than back in Melbourne all Australia would cheer on whoever Iran are playing against in the final

Strongly agree. Ideally it will be in the first semi-final as that date coincides with Australia Day

                      EDIT:

Exactly, beating Australia on Australia day in Australia!!!

I think their asses would hurt even more than it did in 97.

For playing against Australia on Australia Day they have to beat S.Korea for finishing first?

Ya, both teams would need to win their group [and their quarters obviously].

I don't know Australia enough, but I don't think the average australian remember and/or care about what happened so long time ago, specially that they are not a nation fond of football (they prefer rugby or other sports) and even in football, they qualified numerous time for the WC with some good results (in 2006)
