do you guys follow professional sports? if yes, just list them. I really would like to know. I assume you live in LA, and you've watched the LA Kings, LA Lakers and the Dodgers. Do they ever stand up and call themselves the favorite???? Even during the glory days of the Lakers, Phil Jackson would play the mind games and refer to themselves as the underdog. It's the norm. it's how professional coaches play the mind game.

On the other hand, we have idiots like GN or MK, stand up and thump their chest and predict victory, only to provide extra incentive to their opponents to play their game of the century against us.

You have comments that are meant for the fans, media and opponents ...... and then you have the locker room speeches. It's 2 different things.

I hate to say this and I sure hope that I am wrong but Iran will not make it passed the 1/4 finals with a loss to Japan

      here is why

1-Qatar will finish first in our group because they have had 16 friendly games in 2014 with only 1 loss to peru.

2-Qatar is the richest country in the world (per square capita)and has all AFC/FIFA people in thier pockets.

3-They own all the refs at the AC.

4- 8 out of thier starting 11 players are all none Qataries naturalized citizens footballers so they can brought in so they can beat Iran and also qualify for the 2018 WC

we dont stand a chance vs. soo many advantages the have over us.

again I hope that this doesnt happen and that i will be proven wrong but I doubt it

I thought qatar would actually be pretty good but I watched the second half of their game vs Estonia and they are far from it. Their results are not reflective of how they play they are playing horrible teams. They could barely keep possession against estonias b team (their a team tied san marino btw). Qatar should have been down to 9 men if it wasnt for the referee only giving yellow cards. You could also tell the estonians were at a huge disadvantage to the weather are they were dying out their yet the qataris were running all around and fine. If queiroz plays the counter attacking style and iran can finish the chances I think we'll win by a few goals. Also after their performance I would say Qatar is highly overrated I think Uae is the biggest challenge.

yea i watch other sports, in fact im a huge laker fan. i can confidently say though, no coach downgrades his own team, and this is what CQ is did. we all know Iran will come out on top, but to hear the coach say the contrary is annoying. The boys worked hard not to hear this bs from CQ, they dont deserve this.

Yeah but can you believe that Bierhoff guy destroying his team's morale right before the World Cup?? I can't believe they didn't fire him for betraying his country! He was probably paid by the same Qatari agent that was paying CQ during the qualifiers. I'm a patriot and I'm certain of it!

My good dude, I was going to let this one go, but since you brought it up again, Bierhoff said that a year and half before the WC and before Germany even qualified, not 2 weeks before the tournament started!

Plus, that's the equivalent of Kaffashian [not Lowe] saying "for us, it is almost impossible to win" the Asian Cup [exact statement in quotes]. And let's assume Kaffashian didn't say that a year and half ago, but yesterday. What would be the big deal about that statement? 90% if not more of us would agree with that statement - you and I included.

Amma akheh azeeze man in koja o oon koja? 99% of Iranian fans don't agree that Iran aren't one of the favorites to make the 2nd round - that 1% being made up of people like that mentally challenged now resident philosopher at the other site!

If you give me a single example of a coach in the whole history of football, going into a major tournament as the 1st ranked team and one of the top 4 favorites to win the tournament, saying they weren't even one of the favorites to get out of the group stage, I would LOVE to see it.

Anyone who follows sports - any sports- would know this is just typical coach talk before a match or tourney, especially when your team has a certain pedigree that makes it a target for other teams looking to prove a point. He knows those Persian Gulf teams see themselves as underdogs going up against an Iran team that almost beat Argentina just a few months ago. He knows how coaches will use this underdog theme to motivate their players. He's taking that away from them and taking the public pressure off our players at the same time.

Have you guys even asked yourselves how a coach who supposedly "bashes" his players would ever get them to play against Argentina the way we did? Have you guys read about the way he motivated the team before that match, to the point they said they were fearless when they stepped on the pitch? Come on. Enough with this already.

In our next WCQ when we get grouped with Myanmar and Bangladesh, they will be favorites too because it's part of ''mind-games'' ?

                      Makes all sense.

Sigh... Myanmar and Bangladesh aren't close enough to our level to cause a problem with or without motivation. But I hate to break this to you, UAE and Qatar are not that far below us, especially when you factor in their financial and logistical support. Our best IPL teams have been losing to teams from these countries on a regular basis. We are still better than them as a national team and I do expect to beat all three teams in our group. But we're not so far above them to not need mind games. Plain and simple.

^ Let's not get diverted into the issues of grace, valor, honor and such... the heart is what matters, not the words. CQ has a job to do and he wants to make sure the players (and the fans) are 100% alert going into the tournament. Sometimes you have to give a little shock to the system to achieve that. (He is doing exactly that.)

I don't agree that he is playing mind-games, why would he? Iran is better than UAE and Qatar, and based on our squad we must top the group. No excuses or whatsoever.

Qatar and UAE can play 500 friendly games, Iran still should be able to outclass them. We have legionnaires in Europe, they don't. We have more experience and talent, they don't. We are three times Asian champions, they are not. We qualified 4 times for the World Cup, where were they?
simply not true anymore my friends,
Iran and Iranians can continue to hide their heads in the sand and assume that the world is not advancing right before their eyes. But the truth is that the world around us is moving at a very fast speed and simply bc Iranians are going backwards doenst mean that they will stop.

Qatar, UAE , Uzbakistan, Oman are in fact better prepare and better served than we are. Simply saying Iran should beat these teams based on the past is irresponsible and uninformed.

Of course media and fans will always ignore context.
Why would you expect anyone to do that?

My suggestion to everyone is: Let the games be played, if they lose and all this didn't work then criticize and say you knew better. As of right know you all sound as crazy as Mazloumi coming on the air during the halftime of Iran - Lebanon claiming that our world cup hopes are over and CQ should be immediately fired.

Sorry, but I just don't buy this entire ''mind-games'' thing. It's just a ridiculous excuse. UAE and Qatar are also miles behind us. We are talking about the national teams, club football is another story. It makes me cringe when I hear our coach saying UAE and Qatar have more chance to make it than us! UAE and Qatar are nobodies in football. Where where they at World Cups? How many times did they won the Asian Cup? How many European based players do they have? Then again, I support CQ but I despite his ''mind-games'' all along. This is not the first time it happened, after the Bosnia game he was also very negative about our players.

For what? Bosnia is a shit team. They got lucky not to get raped by Argentina which played on 50%, and their defense seemed like a bunch of amateurs against Nigeria. Not to mention they are having a horrible EURO 2016 campaign, almost eliminated from qualifying! And Bosnia deserved to go to R16 according to CQ. CQ needs to have more optimism in our team and our players.
