Well boys, we knew the first half of the 1st game wasn't going to be phenomenal, but good effort from TM, especially considering that the Bahrainis are killing the game with all the fouls.

We also have to take into account that Bahrain threw everything they had into the 1st 30 minutes of the game, playing a very high tempo game to take advantage of TM's lack of coordination/friendlies.

It was pretty obvious they were going to run out of steam in the latter part of the half and I highly doubt they'll be able to keep that up for more than 15-20 minutes in the 2nd half.

Shojaei had a few back-to-back screw-ups in the 1st 10 minutes, but he has actually been playing well. And all I have to add to that is...

You could see Iran was asserting itself in the last 15 minutes of the first half. Bahrain didnt have anything going for that period of time. TM needs to do the same and step on them in the 2nd half. We definitely do NOT want to finish 2nd in the group but unfortunately Qatar really opened up its asshole for UAE.

Imagine if Hajsafi does well the entire tournament and then goes to Europe
This guy apart from his goal, is one of the very few Iranian players who can do very well at everything, attack, defending, shooting, passing, pressuring, dribbling you name it.

+ He is playing for Team melli for YEARS, have great international experience for a player playing in Asia

And he can be used as a LB, LM and CDM

Pretty decent first half...we need some time to get into the game.

Its still the first game of the tournament.

My only concern is the midfield...its non existent. There is no one to connect the midfield to the attack hence why are forced to use the wings.

Bring in Jahanbaksh for Shojaei and move Dejagah to the middle...


We need another goal to seal this game.
Bahrain is only dangerous because we are letting them be dangerous. Roughly at minute 70 they will be tired and stop running. We have to pressure them once they get the ball.

First Half :

Haghighi - looks really confident and ready

Ghafouri - holy crap what speed this guy has! And great left footed cross with him. (he is trying to link well with Dejagah but no fault of his own, dejagah is holding a bit too long on the ball). He was also left behind on 2 crosses

Pouraliganji - playing well, getting him self open on attacks as well. Surprised he started over Sadeghi but he is fine

Hosseini - decent

Pouladi - haven't really noticed him most of our attacks came from the right side

Teymourian - as always some how gains his form for tournments, he is is playing well

Nekounam - good passes, poor freekick from him

Hajsafi - always ready to shoot, great right footed shot damesh garm!

Shojaei- Cant believe it, he is playing well. Great through balls!

Dejagah - playing okay, holding on the ball too long and repetitive dribbles

Reza - Is fighting hasn't really had any oppurtunities

The first 15 minutes or so were really shaky, Bahrain was playing well. We controleld it and this goal before half was vital to take away their confidence. Hopinh JB comes in the second. Hajsafi is really a great player, he is solid of defense, he is always shooting from range, has good speed! What a great player!

Ghooch has been poor, he needs to step it up. Hajsafi had been quiet until the end of the first-half, but what a nice goal.
Pouraliganji has been solid at CB, very calm and composed.

Just a word of note - don't expect anything spectacular from Team Melli in the first 1-2 matches. This is a team that should become better as the tournament progresses.

Hell, the team looked a lot better in the last 20 minutes of the first half than the 1st 25 minutes. Lets hope this trend will continue.

I didn't say he played poor. But he definately wasn't that good as Kiarash tries to tell with his positive comments.

Did you see his amazing pass to Dejagah which Ashkan failed to convert? Shojaei has been everywhere drawing fouls, giving good passes and creating danger. Shojaei is having a good game today, you can't deny this.

Yes i saw it. It was good. I don't deny that he plays better than his previous games. But don't make it sound like he played like Pirlo lol.

Dejagah's been our main player. He looks good on the right but needs to control the game more in the center. Shojaei's had flashes of brilliance and has been lethargic and weak at other times. A lot of our attacks have been coming from the right, just hoping to get Dejagah on the ball. Decent first half so far, we need to dominate the second.
