i thought it was Haj Safi with that through ball for Dejagha 1 on 1 with keeper..!!
it took Shojaee 10 minutes to get a touch , we had zero presence in the middle of the pitch and no one to connect D to offense in mf, except Ashkan taking on people, Also kiri defensive header almost costs us an early goal which luckily the forward went for spectacular overhead kick and missed, then he got roughed up all over the MF and beat down physically by the hacking bahrainies..!! i don't recall too many other shining moments..!!??

Update guys, the stadium is about 80% full packed with Iroonis, huge party atmosphere been awesome so far.

Dejagah has been an absolute beast. He is a level above everyone else it's crazy.

Notable mentions Shojaei and Pouladi, both having excellent games though Shojaei started a little shaky.

Not gonna lie, Iran played horribly almost the entire half. It sounds awful but Bahrain outclassed us on some occasion providing a few of the only good attacking opportunities of the game for either side. Hope this was just the nerves of the first game of the tournament and we pick up form after this game. Great way to end the half though with Hajsafi's lightening of a shot.

I never had anything against Shojaei, but I think I realize why he's not so popular. Most successful teams have a strong attacking mid that organizes attacks and is flashy but gets things done. I think Shojaei's issue is that while he doesn't play badly, he just struggles a bit at providing that idealized attacking mid we crave.

On another note, does anyone think that Iran's attempt at attacking football was horrendous with all those stupid long over the top balls at the beginning. I'm no expert but even my u10 coach used to tell me "pass and move, and don't rush the play".

P.S: Bahrain's players didn't seem to play too dirty and seemed pretty friendly except for that one sob Ali guy playing in the middle out on the left kept on fouling and complaining. Needs to get a yellow and settle himself down.

If we can attack from our left side as well we should see a less predicatable attack. Every attack was almost from Ghafouri and Dejagah, Pouladi barely went off his line , and hajsafi didn't have much of the ball before his goal (what a goal, he has a cannon!) Bahrain put everything they had to score first (and kill the game after) this was a huge goal for us, it should discourage them, one more goal from us and game over. Reza needs to fight a bit more, and dejagah needs quicker decisions ghafouri is hustling on the right to cross the ball many times and was open.

Gucci has been struggling physically against the Bahraini central defenders - Azmoun could cause them more problems.
