The same Japan who with all their Euro stars couldn't make it out of the group stage with the likes of Greece and Ivory Coast.

Iran would have destroyed Greece with ease. If we were in that group we would be runner-up.

He's just being realistic. Japan, Australia and South Korea are all head & shoulders above other AFC teams when it comes to infrastructure & player development.

Let's forget about the World Cup. We had a better performance than the likes of Spain and England in Brazil but tbh I don't think we can beat them right now. Japan is still beatable on a good day but on paper their squad is stronger than us and their 2010 team that advanced to the round of 16.

What an idiot! As the head of AFC you are not supposed make such statements. Did you hear Sep Blatter saying Brazil will win the WC?

What has Bahrain done for AFC since they elect a Bahrani for this job?
Watch for some of those referees we may get in group stage.
Having said that I think it will be tough for Iran or any team to win Australia in Australia. Japan is also
a tough team. But so is UZ, Jordan, South Korea and so on.
I will not not bet on Iran will win this time but there is a small chance since CQ has now had good time to build a strong team.

This year we will make it to the finals, ima sure about that, we have a easy group, also we could beat Australia in the Semi finals, and in the finals beat Japan, hard but not impossible.

I dont understand why u guys are blaming him? I know that a AFC president shouldnt say anything about this.
I think he just visited WilliamHill, bwin and bet-at-home and looked the bet rates.

                      WilliamHill: Japan 3.25, Australia 4, S.Korea 6.5, Iran 8, Uzbekistan 15, Qatar 21
                      bwin: Japan 3.5, Australia 3.5, S.Korea 7, Iran 8, Uzbekista 13, S.Arabia 21
                      bet-at-home: Australia 3, Japan 3, S.Korean 5.5, Iran 7.5, Uzbekistan 14, UAE 18

I would say also say it like that. Japan has the most quality in Asia. They have many european players. Australia has got some good players and they played a good WC. The game against Holland was very good and they are playing at home. S.Korea has also players in many european teams.
I would say Iran and S.Korea are at the same level.

I agree we are the outsider behind Japan, Australia, SK. These 3 teams have achived some very good results recently at international level (WC) and asian cups (winner, final, semi final at worst).

Even if we had a semi final in 2004, it is time to lose our virginity!!!

As the president of AFC albeit as corrupt as FIFA, he has NO place to predict winners. Where is the professionalism?

I dont think that there is any problem in prediciting. No surprise that the president most probably is hostile to us like the rest of of Persian Gulf neighbours.

It would be priceless to see his face when he gives medals to our boys after the final haha

Actually the more accurate way of reporting would have been:

                                1. The AFC presidents hopes......
                                or
                                2. The AFC president wishfully thinks.....
