    LOL... Jalal Talebi can't do simple math! His take on Iran's chances in Asian Cup!

    Iran with 50/50 chance to win it, Australia with more chance!!! He still hasn't figured out that once you add the odds of all the teams together, they can't be more than 1!!!

    Difficult Asian Cup task for Iran, former coach Jalal Talebi predicts

    I think host Australia has more chance to win the title and Japan could defend its title. Iran has 50-50 chance to win the title as well,

    Thats not wrong.

    What he is saying:
    Chances: Australia>Japan>...>Palestine
    Chances of Iran: 50-50 => Fail or Win => Fail+Win=1 So he said the 50-50 just of the view of Iran
    Chances of Palesine 99-1 => 0.99Fail or 0.01Win => Fail+Win=1

    So his math isnt wrong.

      My good man, when he says Iran has a 50-50 chance, it means Iran has a 50% chance of winning it. If Iran has a 50% chance of winning it, no other team (such as Australia or Japan) can have a higher chance than 50%, because you can't get more than 100% when you add all the odds (unless more than one team could win it). In other words, the chance of any team winning it is NOT independent from the chances of other teams winning it.

      In any tournament, each team has an odd of winning the tournament which is expressed as a fraction of 1 or a percentage. The sum of all those odds MUST equal one. Assuming, there were only 3 teams in this tournament (Iran, Australia and Japan), if Iran had a 50% chance of winning it, Australia and Japan would have a 50% chance of winning it combined, so neither of them could have higher chances than Iran.

        any of the top 4-5 seeds are likely to win it all..!
        first they gotta worry about getting outa group stage..! from then on things will tighten up and Luck also plays a big role in who takes the crown..!!

          He is not a freaking bookie but a coach. You are targeting him for the 50-50 part. Basically he says Australia are the favorites, Japan may be able to defend its title and Iran may or may not win the cup. Simple. Stop disparaging a respectable coach.
