I don't think this the optimal Iranian lineup. Somehow Jahanbakhsh should be involved maybe as CAM, JB and Azmoun can play good togather.
Gucci helped the mifield very good but is not a good finisher as he used to be,
Qatar was at level of a good African side today but was too friendly against UAE. Bahrain even made an own goal. Although I am not that happy with result I have to say it has to be a hell to be in a groupe like this for TM. Good it is over.
Finally I prefer a semi with South Korea than Australia. Even though it will be dificult against Japan

Azmoun has much more natural talent than Gucci. I'm glad CQ is seeing this aswell. Gucci seems like a good and hardworking player, however he was very selfish today, he must understand that it's all about our country, he needs to put his personal pride aside otherwise he should be replaced by Ansarifard as our number two striker, at least Karim has accepted his role as reserve player and realises it's all about the team effort. Azmoun has established himself as our number 1 striker, as i
mentioned in previous threads, he's going to be a great player for our country.

Ashkan was playing a bit ahead of three other midfielders and connecting with Gucci.
Again, Carlos did this to maintain the result and add more height in the box for long high balls in the box.We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

My god, once Heidari came on we started to counter, yet our players are so weak and cant get their heads up.
Queiros needs to grab Dejagah, Heidari/Shojaei, Gucci/Azmoun and put 5 players in front of them and say now counter. They should do this until they can play with each other. So many wasted opportunities.
We should have killed the game off at 75mins.
Kudos to our defence. Rock solid.

We were on top, we got the goal, we sat back and they literally didn't have one single respectable chance to score. And everybody lived happily ever after.
There's times when you muppets might be able to come out of your caves and start with the CQ-bashing but this is not one of them. Please try again.

We were very good today. We created more chances than the prior match while we were solid in defence. Kudos to our boys to get out of the group with ease. Bahrain had some chances, but Qatar allost nothing. I didnt even notice Khalfan (maybe because of CQ plan to shut him out of the game) and I am hopeful we will continue to do so with Omar of UAE.
Our defence has never been as strong as now. We have depth on the bench, team spirit as high as it gets and the alsays wonderful Iranian fans. We will grow as a team as the tournament continues.

Nekounam was absolutely outstanding. MOTM.
Shojaei had another very good game as well, so secure on the ball. He provides a great outlet to our defense and also gave us a nice spark of creativity when attacking; his move that got us the free-kick and drew a yellow card just outside the box was sublime.
Hosseini and Pouraliganji were rock-solid, Qatar gave us zero threats because these two kept it clean and simple. Pouraliganji put his body on the line at least three times and almost scored that header. Ghafouri had a couple mistakes but wasn't bad overall. Pouladi wasn't convincing.
Ando's hustle play was heroic to say the least, although Nekounam's passing, vision, and composure on the ball is on another level. Hajsafi was rather quiet, very good defensive work but did nothing going forward, with a few wayward passes and unforced turnovers.
Dejagah wasn't brilliant the way he was vs Bahrain, but he had less support today and Qatar really tried to shut him down. Azmoun's goal was pure class, I really hope his injury is nothing serious.
Heydari had good defensive work and kept it simple.
Ghooch didn't get the best service when he came on due to our defensive shape, but when he did get involved, he was poor (which doesn't mean he sucks and should never play again).

A type of a forward like Azmoun fits much better in a 4-2-3-1 system than Ghoochannejhad does and this has nothing to do with the fact that Ghoochannejhad's form has droppbed lately or that he was bad and selfish today. Particularly when we're playing in an Asian competition against weaker/comparable teams where we, as one of the powerhouses, are supposed to play much more forward and make the play much more often than what we did in a global tournament like the WC when facing teams like Argentina.
Reza would fit much better in a 2 forward system with next to him a tall strong forward (something like the Azizi - Daei combi).Persian Pride running through my veins!
Esteghlal for life!!

The only bad thing today about Shojaai was an unnecessary foul that he committed in the opponent's side.
He has done it in the past on our side. He needs to cool off.
In next match he will sit out for the yellow card to erase.
Sardar in a few years will be worth millions. The man has skills and is very intelligent. That is great news for TM and that is what we had hoped Ansarifard to do. Now Karim has a role model to learn from.
You also noticed Dej trying to do what Ali karimi did a few years ago passing through a few people. He almost made it. It may be the matter of time that he will master that.
If he gets enough team support, he can save his energy and do a few of those.
two good free kicks went nowhere. I wonder what happened to neku's great shots and also Ando's.
The new Pouraliganji proved himself and showed his confidence and that is great discovery by CQ.
Dej was very cool in spite of poor referee calls in couple of instances. In one situation the qatari player on ground, he tried to swing his leg to hurt Dej. Dej kept his cool and did his best. CQ probably has given him advice not to get mad at referee for acting foolishly or blindly.
