i agree in cup tournements where you only pay 6-7 games, the strategy is different,you dont have to play great every game and become champion,we are not playing 38 games a year is a tournement and the only thing people care is win, now we most likley play iraq even though i believe iraq can beat palestine more than 5 and jordan beat japan

People just remember Daei, Azizi, Karimi and the names, and forget that we used to lose all the time to Arab teams. These players had Arabs trolling around in their minds, and would screw up majorly.

This Iran team has seemed to overcome that mentality under CQ, and nobody gives him the credit he deserves for that. We no longer fear playing Arabs. If we played Saudi's tomorrow, we would beat them. I don't know if I could say that with certainty before 2011.

Also, everyone is clamoring for that offensive style of the Eastern European and vatani coaches. That style was basically, "go ultra attacking, shoot, win." People who think we had some kind of grand tactic when we were winning games 6-4, 4-3, and losing games to Bahrain and others by 3 goals are definitely daydreamers.

Our team's defense used to be shit. We got by on the individual talent of our players.

CQ actually wins games using TACTICS (anyone who says it's all luck or whatever, how many games can you really win 1-0 scoring a goal in the dying embers of the game. Iran's done it about 20 times under CQ now, so it's a tactic even if it's not your FIFA 15 PS4 ultra-attacking Ibrahimovic Ronaldo gameplay).

We can actually predict Iran games now. We know what we will see when we see Iran play. They play the same way against Argentina that they do UAE. We have an identity. When we lose, we cannot blame a specific player, or luck, or anything as we could back in the day. Things just happened back then, and we were happy that Daei and Karimi and the rest of the band could power us through.

We saw what happened after they left though and before CQ. We floundered, because our talent pool dried up.

This team may not have the talent of TM 1996-2007, but it definitely has far better tactics. We can actually win things realistically now. Not just hoping Karimi or Daei will score 20 goals to win us this Asian Cup.

When I was watching the game live and seeing UAE dominate possession and passing I was getting angry and at that time I thought UAE was dominating us. But after watching highlights I realized UAE basically didn't even have 1 dangerous chance around our goal. Whereas TM had several. UAE had all that possession but they couldn't do shit with it.

It looks like no Arab team will survive past the QF's. Iran will smash Iraq and Japan will smash UAE. And the 7 other Arab teams were eliminated
