There's just no fear to be had when a team is too defensive. No great team has ever come from the theory of "we can defend well and hit on the counter". That's not how you play if you want to be the best that's how you play when you are happy to progress through tournaments but not win them.
Do you ever watc football mate? Cause that's exactly how Greece won the European Cup in 2004 and how Chelsea won the champions league under di matteo.

A coach can be bought. It does not matter if he is Iranian or not. If you can contract the best coach in the world he is yours. But you can only use Iranian players.
Iranian players like Dejagah, Gucci, shojaei and many other recommend CQ and CQ says best thing to do is to play with 10 men behind against Argentin.
He wouldn't if he had players who play in Bayer Munchen. Our best players Gucci, NN, shojaei are playing in II league in some part of the world.

You can only think of these 2 out of all the cups ever staged. Think of all the great teams of the present and past and you wont find any that played Greece did that cup. That was an anomaly not the rule.

That's nonesense, a lot of successful teams try to defend well and employ a counter attacking strategy. Think of A. Madrid last year. Or Manchester United under CQ and SAF. Even Real Madrid nowadays, look at how they beat Bayern last year in the CL. You could even count spain in 2010 and 2012!

My position is you cant beat top teams like Argentina playing 10 behind the ball so why try and do it. Its pointless, you must score goals if you want to win games and if you aren't there to win its better to stay home. WC comes around once every 4 years if you make it and no-one remembers who drew lost to Italy in the 1st round by only 1-0 in 1980 for example (just making it up as an example) but they do remember North Korea in 1966 and Cameroon in 1986 who went out there and played to win. This is football in the spirit its meant to be played.

You are getting mixed up with good attacking teams who are also strong on the counter. To say MU, Bayern and Spain play 10 behind the ball is the only nonsense here.

Only 1 of those teams gave themselves a chance.

By conceding 9 goals in 3 games?

I agree with that. In 2011 South Korea was almost in the same group that Iran was in2015. South Korea lost 4-1 to Arg, Tied Nigeria but won Greece and went to II round.
I think CQ evaluated Bosnia to be the strongest team in the group which is why he decided to go for a win against Arg. It would have gone fine if the ref called that penalty.

No by scoring more than 1 and playing attacking football.

How can anyone not smile when watching this match?

Regardless of the team we are facing, we are extremely capable of beating them. Japan is very vulnerable to Iran's playing style and will completely choke against us. Even the UAE has the potential to beat them.

Australia was dead last and already eliminated in the final game; Iran had the chance to advance until the very last match day.

Talk to me when Australia doesn't lose 1-3 to some 2nd rate South Americans and 0-3(!) to an out-form Spain team who were at that time capable of losing to any team

I think he put his eggs in the one basket relying on a win in the Bosnia game instead of trying to win each game. That's my take on his tactics last WC. The tactics in the Nigeria game were also negative and Nigeria is very beatable.

First CQ is a defensive coach and even when he coached Portugal that's how he played. He is also very disciplined.

I agree that our defensive approach matches our current abilities as a team, but that doesn't mean we use the same tactic for each game, be it Bahrain or Qatar or any other team. Just to be sure in our recent history we have never played fluid attacking football, most of our attacking power in the previous years was based on individual skill be it Karimi, Aziz and Co. After many years we are seeing consistency of some form i.e. discipline and a strategy all through the game (defensive)

The Question is can we play a better attacking game with the current crop of players? I feel we can in some games. Our problem lies not with the coach but on what he has on offer too as players.

I am really optimistic for the future, right now we have a solid team in every line starting from goal to the attack except for MF we should be fine. the missing link is that playmaker in the Middle. I would have hoped that would have been sadegian from PP.
