I wonder if the players bought into CQ's tactics. CQ didn't care who we play the next round, but my gut feeling from Neku and Ando's interviews were that they probably weren't pleased...

      We lack players like Ashkan.
his ball control, retention and dribbling ability is far beyond the rest of the team!

We kept giving away the ball cheaply, which was nerve racking!
      CQ was furious!

After scoring the goal, we needed to hold on more.

We played bloody horribly and got a lucky goal. Let's see how far this style of play gets us...

                Passing-wise? For sure.

Creating dangerous chances? No, we out-did them.

What people will always remember is result. No one is going to remember UAE had 70% possession of the ball. Iran won and topped the group and that's what matters. I'd rather us play ugly football but win this whole thing.

That was waaaayyyyy too close. Beating Iraq will be similar to this game imo. I don't think tm can play well in situations where they are more likely to keep possession. If we beat Iraq however, I think we can get to the final and win. I commentator at the world cup said it best: we are the best team on the pitch when we DONT have the ball. When we get to semis and hopefully the final, we will play better because we are going to make fast counter attacks and they will be much more decisive imo.

Hahaha, yes, we were lucky, I mean all those clear-cut UAE chances that their 156% possession lead to definitely meant they deserved to win the game.

We created the greater chances, we got the goal, we got the win, we got top spot. 'If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle' arguments aren't relevant and disrespecting the greatest manager this nation has ever had because you've been playing too much FIFA isn't acceptable.

The fact it required a Messi last-minute winner for Argentina to beat us is no fluke, this is one of the greatest defensive units operating in world football. It's a shame uneducated fans of the sport fail to appreciate this aspect of the game and need to see Jahanbakhsh do Rabonas to be satisfied.

Wow, UAE had 10 chances but 0 on target.
Iran had 12 and 4 on target.

Risky way to play the game but I think the boys underestimate their presence on the ball, and for that reason they sat deep in the game. Quality tactics though by quieroz, really knew when to bring on the big guns and tired out the UAE significantly. I don't know what it was, but at the end of the match they were playing very unlike themselves, ever Omar A. looked a bit depleted and that shot at the very end kind of shows how it must've felt to have so much of the ball but to create absolutely nothing that makes Haghighi work.

Here we also saw the benefits of having experienced players on the team aka Gucci and Ashkan with their impact on the offense. MOTM was easily Omar Abdulrahman but for Iran it was undoubtedly Nekounam; his composure, defensive prowess and leadership were exceptional today and really a different vibe from the rest of the team that was anxty and a lacking confidence.

Anybody hearing the fox Australia commentator get sick of how far down his throat the emirati shooshool was? wanted to vomit listening to that man, neutrality is a thing you know...
