Frustrating game for me, Glad we won at the end. Hopefully after these 3 games we can rest a bit and reflect on our deficiencies.

If we get our passing right and press a bit better we will go all the way.

Definitely the worst attacking performance for Iran so far in the Asian Cup. However this is understandable as there were four changes in attack that had less than 15 caps between them all.

I thought Amiri was good and fast but lacked experience which was obvious as he could have made better choices after dribbling. Rafei had a few good touches here and there but largely invisible during the game.
Jahanbaksh was definitely a dissapointment, he showed no sense of urgency and did not manage to get behind the ball. Movement off the ball was non existent. Hopefully he can shake it off...

Now lets get to the actual game, it is true that UAE dominated possession and passing however almost 50% of their passes were in their own field. Our team was tactically organized and disciplined in defense.

I really struggle to see a way through this bulletproof defense where credit should be given to CQ. UAE had absolutely zero chances on goal and Haghighi was never forced to make a save. With a third of the passes and a third of the possession that UAE had, we managed to create four goalscoring opportunities, one of which we scored. Azmoun had two good chances in the first half, and Pouraliganchi had two great chances on corner kicks.

It was definitely a poor game in terms of "entertaining" football, but we got the result and that's what we needed. I expect similar tactics against Iraq...who don't have the creativity, stamina or even chemistry that this UAE team had today. They will give Japan a hard time...

Overall we cant complain, 3 games, 9 points, 4 goals scored, 0 goals conceded.

        adesorian take from the game:
we played a "utility football" with "utility players" based on running, fighting, engaging, pushing. And that we did well.
Whole team defends, it defends good!
We went out of our group with ZERO conceeded goals, clean sheet!

on the improvment side / work we gotta do:
I knoow, we had no proper preparation etc, which has affected our game, but we need to improve our passing accuracy!
Shooting, passing needs to be refined!
I blame the poor preparation for this, but we gotta do what we gotta do.

overall: I dont care we play utility football or this and that, I want to see a team that is organized in the defence and engages in duels and fights and runs! And I see that now!
thank you TM, thank you CQ!

Actually I think it is best to have a tight defense, and then build the offense from there. Unlike for example how Germany in the World Cup played with Algeria: very forward but vulnerable in the back. Manuel Neuer had to make several unusual saves that game for Germany to go through.

I think the critics of CQ "might" realize that they were wrong about him when he leaves and TM doesn't produce good results.
I personally think there has been a drop in the quality of our football since the mid 2000's or otherwise an stagnation.
While we were mesmerized by Karimi and company we didn't realize that there are no players in the pipeline replacing the 1996-2000 crop of players.

Our resurgence in Asian football was built on their backs and since their departure we've been trying really hard to relive the glory.
I hope I'm wrong, but stats of our clubs in Asia don't lie.

                POST-MATCH DISCUSSION | vs. UAE - Asian Cup 2015

We should give UAE credit. Some people discounted them before the match but they proved worthy opponents and will give Japan a run for their money.

I was just thinking imagine we try that hard to win so we can avoid Japan, what if they lose to Jordan. LOL all our hard work would be put to waste.

When Qatar lost 4-1 to UAE many analysed that UAE with those midfielders have become a good team. I was remembering Qatar's 5-1 loss to Uzbakestan in WCQ and I knew what an effort Qatar was making to pull Iran out of world cup. Before Iran Qatar match the coach of Qatar said we played too friendly against UAE but Iran would be different. And they were different. Say what you want about todays game we did a good job and toped the 3 Arab teams that were united against us.
I thoght we were not so accurate in out passes and finishings but we bocked greate for UAE's Omar and other good midfielders. I think they may win Japan. It won't be totally unrealistic.

If Honda manages to calibrate his foot and make his shots go 6 inches lower and to the left, I think Japan will beat Jordan with 3 goals!

UAE had 70% possession and couldn't get one shot on our goal.

Once you have been accustomed to Queiroz's tactic and don't expect us to run the show anymore, quality of the opposistion can be seen from the number of chances they had and allowed us to have, and for me that was 6-1 Iran.

So honestly the UAE is a bit overrated, but of course neutral spectators don't see that. And thankfully opposition coaches neither .

                            I watched the game live.

Nekounam's positioning is simply astonishing. His ball distribution is so intelligent too. What a player!

Teymourian's aerobic ability is a few levels above anyone else on the pitch.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.
