POST-MATCH DISCUSSION | vs. UAE - Asian Cup 2015
Regardless of style of play, that was a hell of a good ending.
I was telling my mum how there is no way TM would score in extra time, as UAE are good at time wasting and will be looking to wasting time to finish of the match. Out of no where this ball dink out Ando and heading towards Nekounam. I said f*ck as he missed but then Gucci tucked it away. straight away I shouted OFFSIDE as ball went in to the back of the net, but in the back of my mind I was praying that the flag didn't go up. Well it didn't, and I went crazy shouting GOOOAAALLL at almost 9pm at night.
What a climax!

Hi Guys,
I wish you were all there last night. It was only 11,000 people but we made some good noise and that party outside was awesome.
Here are some videos of the celebrations outside. Thats me with the Iran jester hat and the red boogh. So much fun.
Im struggling to embed the videos so I will just post some links.

I was actually pretty content with how we played until around the 65 minute mark. Sure our set-plays were sub par last night, but we rested a few of our players, gave a few youngsters a chance and still had UAE fully neutralized.
But considering that finishing 2nd in the group would have had grave consequences for TM, we should have started pushing up a bit and pressing more around that time rather than leaving it until the 82nd minute.
UAE didn't really have anything to threaten us and their defense was pretty shaky. If it was a stronger team and we didn't have to win this game, there was nothing wrong with the game plan at all.

I don't agree with the several members that were critical of Rafiei and Amiri. I thought both of them did well.
Rafiei - he looks to be a good playmaker with an eye for a nice through ball. Gave a few nice long chips and through balls to Amiri/Azmoun. Also, he was good defensively and was doing the dirty work (which CQ requires).
Amiri - he ran his behind off and I'd be surprised if he didn't cover the most ground on our team. He was fast, lively, and hungry. I love these fast players CQ is introducing like Ghafouri and now, Amiri. Sure Amiri was inaccurate with his final touch at times, but he showed promise. And heck, I was even critical of his selection before the match. He could play the LW position like it's meant to be played.
Fact is, with our A-team, ALL of our attacks come from the right, usually through Ashkan. Yesterday, most of our attacks originated from the left, through Rafiei and Amiri. Even when Ashkan came on, the left was still active. We need to balance our attacks and these two can help us do that.

Omar Abdulrahman...
It pains me to give a Gulf player this much credit but this kid is something else. He's the best asian player i've ever seen play. literally every time he touched the ball, something magical would happen for them. he's 50% of their team. and this is considering that he's playing against a truly world-class defensive system that took lionel messi out of a game. this kid belongs in europe...if we thought Arab money ruined OUR players, he is proof that their own players are ruined by their leagues.

The number of no look passes, chips and long balls that landed perfectly at his team mates feet is something you hardly even see in Europe.
I would so love to see this guy play in Europe to really gauge how good he is. I can honestly say I have not seen many players in my life that play as beautifully as he does. His left boot is nuts
