Just as much as me and others think we are on a higher plane and standard and it is beneath us to think so lowly of ourselves or act in such a manner for merely beating these teams with lucky goals or through opponents' mistakes.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to find a few chaps even think we have already over achieved by qualifying for the Asia cup. It takes all kinds, you know.

    It's just a matter of one's standards.
No, it's a matter of realistic vs unrealistic standards. We are a third world country with no footballing infrastructure, no resources, and a dearth of international-level talent. You are a fan of Iranian football and the PGL, and follow it closely, and are biased. The truth is that our domestic football is absolute shit, and our national team is currently over-achieving.

the funny thing is that you talk as if Iran was at one time a superpower. Since the revolution we've been a top-4 or top-5 asian side and that's it. do you not realize how biased you are?

Lol, okay Dr. Doom. You're telling the guy who started the thread telling others to not be pessimistic about Iran that he has low standards. I've repeatedly told others on this board not to be negative, but in your mind, I am no saying that we are worse than this and that.

You obviously didn't read my post, as I said that Qatar and Bahrain are of lower quality. Every commentator has praised uae's performances thus far, but you think they are nothing. Shows that you are not looking objectively at the situation. I talk about substantive problems in Iranian football that it would be hard for any coach to overcome, but you just clump me in a category I clearly don't belong to. You obviously haven't read any of my points thus far, and are just replying without reading. Your response had nothing to do with my post, although it did a great job of trying to make me seem like I discount Iran. Please, anyone who thinks I believe anything Dr. Doom just slandered me with, please just read my post a few above this. I am trying to educate you on real points you ignore, but you choose to just talk chert o pert about me.

Answer me, direct Dr. Doom. Don't pussy foot around this.

If you think CQ only seeks friendlies with shit teams and he avoids top teams, why could we not even get a friendly with Madagascar or Djibouti in 6 months? Is he too afraid to play them too?

Reality is CQ is playing to our ability, he wont risk it unless its needed.

We are the Greece of Euro 2004, we defend with our lives and attack cautiously, with powerful set piece ability we don't risk it.

Besides Haghighi, we don't have a single player starting in a 1st-division European league. Not a single one. In the mid-2000s, depending on the year in question, we had between 5-7. Think about our WC 2006 squad:

Rezaei - consistently on "team of the week" in the Serie A, starter for Perugia, known by fans there as "secretary of defense"

Nekounam - in his early 20's, an absolute stud at Pas, a few months away from a 5-6 year career captaining 1st-division Osasuna

Shojaei - in his early 20's, about to join Osasuna

Teymourian - in his early 20's, a year away from joining Bolton, where had it not been for work permit issues, he would have been for years

Mahdavikia - consistent assist leader in Bundesliga, in his mid-20's, one of the greatest Asian careers in Europe of all time

Karimi - starter / supersub at Bayern Munich, had it not been for injury, would have been in Europe for longer

          Zandi - starter at Kaiserslautern

Hashemian - playing for Bochum, 1 year removed from scoring 16 goals in the Bundesliga

So basically, Branko had a squad with 8 top-level European players. by comparison, CQ's best weapon is Ashkan Dejagah...our brightest prospect, Sardar Azmoun, can't even get regular playing time as his mid-level Russian club. Our other bright spot is Jahanbakhsh, who's playing for a 2nd-division dutch side.

If it's not clear to you that our talent levels are currently very low for Iranian standards, and that CQ is overachieving, then you're delusional. If CQ had our WC2006 squad, we would have beaten Argentina and been in the 2nd round of the WC without a doubt. We'd also have a very very good shot of dethroning Japan. Wake up and look at the reality.

I am sorry and I don't mean any disrespect, but who the fuck are we in the footballing world to be waiting for someone like Carlos Qeiroz to convince us?

              convince you of what?
convince you that your football sucks from top to bottom?
Convince you that maybe there are reasons other than "coach", that you haven't won shit for 30 years?
What did you win when you had the best goal scorer in the history of Football, plus Asia's Maradona, Azizi, Kia, Bagheri, Minavand, Abedzadeh..etc etc.. what did win when we had them?
how about your clubs? When was the last time any of your clubs won anything in Asia? can you even remember it without looking it up on google? I doubt it.

You don't need convincing, you just don't understand the beautiful game of football.

                Thank You!

                That's what I've been preaching!
I guess some members think our football is in FIFA 2002 and CQ is still playing with that same team today!
No bros! It's FIFA 15 that CQ is playing today and the squad is different and the ratings are in the 60's not 70's!

To those who think Ghotbi and GN had a favorable performance compared to CQ and his "ultra defensive" tactics, here's the video of us playing Korea at AC 2011. This was a Korean team that Ghotbi claimed to know "like the back of his hand". Notice that not only did we park the bus, we sucked so much at doing it that every time Koreans approached our box it turned into an adventure. Did you Jogo Bonito experts hate defensive football back then too, or did you discover this only when CQ came along? Or perhaps you only like it when it's executed ineptly??

And here's GN's record at the Asian Cup 2007: A 2-1 win against Uzbeks, a 2-2 tie against China (after falling behind 2-0), and a 2 goal win against mighty Malaysia who had given up TEN goals in its first two matches! So much for "fluid" and "attacking" football. Then onto the quarterfinals and a defensive game against the weakest Korean side in recent years culminating in a loss in PKs. And the reason we didn't play defensively against China and Uzbekistan is because we fell behind early in both matches and were chasing the game well into the second half.

Like I've said before though, don't worry fellas... CQ will be gone before you know it and you'll get a "brave" Iranian coach like Faraki, GN and Daei, which let's face it, is exactly what you deserve.

I believe it's 3rd. division, as last year they played in the second division, though got relegated to a lower division. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Nevertheless agreed with everything else you said. Enjoyed reading it!

Big elephant in the room that Dr Doom and CQ critics can't answer:

Why do ALL the team players not like, not respect, but LOVE cQ? WHY? In fact have you ever seen a group of national team players love and believe in a coach like this? Does it mean nothing to you that the people closest to the action, the people who are in the best position to evaluate the coach, LOVE the man? is that meaningless to you?

Do you want me to list out the players who have spoken against CQ and gotten blacklisted from TM. He basically just kicks out anyone who says the slightest thing against him.

Do you mean Rhmati and Aghili? This two only open their big moths after they were crossed off TM. I have been one of CQ's critics (at times). But I really admire the discipline he has brought to TM. We had the strongest TM in 2002 and 2006 and how did we do then?! Do you remember AK8's kicking the bench after being subbed? Or When Rezaie slapped another TM player in the middle of the game? For an "Iranian" culture it is impressive to see that none one in this TM is above the team. We have never had this.
IFF Should hire more europeans to run the federation all together.
.... At the end I am nothing other than ordinary
