My bigest penalty heart breaks were in AC 1996 when we were boss!
Absolute boss!
We beat KSA 3-0 in the group stage just to tie them in semi finals and lose in penalties!
Thanks to incompetent coaching by Mayelikohan, KSA had plans to neutralize us for 120min!!

Then it was the AC 2007 when we got majorly screwed by the ref and our players' lack of professionalism!
And lost in the shoot out, despite the great talents we had!

This one is not as bad as those or maybe I've grown a thicker skin!
This team is the lowest quality teams we have had in a long time, but the are a real "team".

For the first time in decades our team is inferior to Iraq and UAE in dribbling skills and that's a big deal.
Please don't fool yourselves to believe this team is the best in Asia or close to it!
If this team plays with Mayelikohan in charge it won't make it out of the group stage, let alone beating a AC winning KSA side 3-0 or beating Skorea 6-2!
Yes Mayelikohan managed to score big!!!

... because his team was legendary!!

There's a connection in every possible way. Without Islam, Iran would probably be one of the best countries in football, probably even won a couple of cups too. But with the Islamic Republic in power, they rather fund a nuclear program instead of other essential things.

I'm gutted, there is no other word to describe this. My body can't handle this anymore.. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is how a referee can change the outcome of the entire game.

Iraq couldn't touch us the first half, up until we got the red card. The two goals they scored were from the left side where Pooladi was missing to make that final tackle.

It absolutely hurts to lose to such a team who is worse than Indonesia. Atleast the UAE is deservedly leading against Japan right now.

What else can I say about our team? more than 75 minutes of resistance with 10 men, coming back twice, giving all of us heart attacks and playing with such gheyrat. The game ended, and my tears started rolling down more than Sardar's tears..

All I can say is bacheha motchakerim, beautiful display of gheyrat and love for the game.

We will bounce back.

On a side note, I hope the referee gets into a car accident on his way back, chokes on a kangaroo while his asshole gets anally raped by the Iron Sheikh with a persian club.

If there was ever a time for Iranian fans to use social media to get attention it would be with regards to ben williams. Instead of us harassing players or entertainers, lets collectively spread the word about this injustice. I know its too late to change this heartbreak but if there is any justice it dictates that Ben Williams never referees another match. Lets put out crazy passion and fanaticism to our beloved TM to good use.

what i will say is that up until a few years ago, iran would've given up after the extra time goal, and CERTAINLY after the second extra time goal, but now they really fight, and it's empowering. a shame that the "lessons for the future" and playing "with gheyrat" and all these things don't actually count for anything results-wise, just like losing 1-0 to argentina.

Losing with a arguably a top two level Iranian side is something to moan about, but this team made it through by playing like a team, not by the the superiority of the squad!

Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get the unlucky.
We were not lucky today and Iraq was a respectable opponent.
Please treat these people with proper respect that they deserve!

Dude as i said pouladi had a role in putting the ref in a situation to make the call.He should of known better that the ref is a card giver, dont players know who the ref is?letS be alittle more civil.good heart shown by the team.we will get Iraq back maybe sooner then we think wc qualifiers ??????

Why did he swipe his foot at the freaking Iraqi keeper? Why?
What was the purpose of that?
Hurting him? Getting another yellow card? Getting a reaction and faking a blow to the face and getting a yellow for the keeper?

The same Australian ref who fins CQ for criticizing him is appointed for this game. This is the ref who is famouse for giving card for small provocation. The winner of this game regardless who will have so many yellows that makes it impossible to play in Semi final. First australia loses unexpectedly to Aus then this happens. Don't you really see this.
Go through the game carefully and you will see the ref was not a good one. Poladi second card was completly unnecesery.

Iraq won the game, they didn't play dirty. People aren't pissed at Iraq, they are pissed at the ref (and ourselves).
