We found a couple of gems in this tournament in Ghafouri and Pouraliganji. I hope CQ continues to monitor our league and develops trust in our domestic talent and gives them an opportunity to prosper. Ghafouri isn't young but he can give us at least 3-4 productive years. When CQ first came to Iran, this wasn't the style he was playing. In fact, this defensive style was first implemented in the second Qatar game in WCQ, and since it was working we continued to rely on it. Up until that Uzbekistan game, TM under CQ was mostly an attacking side. Dejagah's injury and lack of creative players in the final 3rd forced us into a defensive mindset which we have stuck with since the last 3 games of WCQ. Going forward, we need to continue to find talents within the next 18 months in order to come out of this defensive shell. We need to find a suitable replacement for Nekounam and continue to test Amiri and his competitors in the midfield. I think with Azmoun we have a proven starter in TM, we just have to find other pieces around him, Pouraliganji and possibly Jahanbakhsh.

Would Iraq have scored if Iran didn't foul at the penalty area?

The funny thing on PFDC is that if we had won everyone would have posted things such as "CQ is the greatest coach ever" "Shojaei deserves a 9 out of 10" "we can beat Brazil on a good day" and so forth.
Today it just was a complete, heart-breaking game of FOOTBALL, everything was in it, the good (coming back twice in ET when you're one man down) and the bad (awful refereeing, losing at the end).
About TM, CQ and the rest, I myself hate this defensive mindset, but CQ made it his after it proved successful in the qualifications. The very positive thing CQ brought us is MENTAL and UNITY as a team. As another one pointed earlier, I never saw TM celebrating goals like they did during this AC.
I also have to say that our team, even on the Asia stage, ISN'T GREAT. We have a few players that are above the Asian average (Dejagah, Azmoun, etc.) but the 3/4th of our squad has just an avg level.
That's why games in this Asian cup have been so tight I think.

I would prefer to see our tacticts changed then our coach changed.. If we get an Irani coach I can gurantee we will never be this well conditioned or well prepared also defensively sound. Id prefer to play 2 forwards gucci and azmoon together and 4 strong mids

I'd like us to be a bit more adventurious now that the competitive stuff is out the way for a year or two.

We simply have to find a system to play Azmoun and Gucci together. Best teams manage to get the best outta their best player and those 2 are among ours and we must integrate them in a system from the start
