- their league is so professional and go far in ACL usually (something we dream for IPL)
- thousands of legionnaires in the best league of europe and sometimes best clubs of the world (something we dream for iran)
- professional federation with tons of friendlies (against top teams), WC, Confederation cup matches (something we dream for Iran)
- tons of foreign respected coach that came to their league or national team (something we dream for Iran)
- players able and smart enough to play a beautiful quick passing game against top teams (something we dream for Iran)

This was probably way mroe devastating for us than it was for the Japanese, they still know that they're one of the best (if not the best) in Asia, and everyone else know it too, they didn't have anything to prove compared to Iran. Japan's biggest loss was missing out on the Confederations cup. I doubt that the trophy itself means anything to them compared to what it means to the rest of us.
