    An Iraqi Perspective

    Peace Everyone,

I have immense respect for TM's performance in the game. Credit to Iran for an amazing performance while playing a man down and constantly clawing back - the headers were an incredible display of aerial superiority.

I am also proud of the Iraqi team for playing an open game throughout - even before the red card Iraq had been creating chances up until the quick counter that led to Iran's opening goal.

The match aside, I'd like to make some remarks regarding prevailing narrative on these boards:
    • Please quit the "Arabs" rhetoric: This Iraqi team does not represent "the Arabs" it represents Iraq alone and literally includes Kurds and an Assyrian in the squad.
    • Please drop AFC conspiracy nonsense: Iraq has zero "pull" with that organization.
    • Please stop channeling anger with ref towards Iraq: If IFF can prove Alaa Abdul Zahra was ineligible for this Asian Cup match then so be it, but there is no reason for vile remarks towards Iraqis across all social media platforms.

It's seriously a football game at the end of the day but people are trying to open up wounds and incite violence by joking about the difficulty of life in Iraq compared to Iran. This is going so much beyond sport and has become a platform for racism.

Iraq & Iran as allies have never been closer than they are today. Iraq is facing an existential threat and Iran is playing a huge role in helping destroy ISIS. It's a shame current goodwill is being tarnished by a football game.

I've been a longtime member of PFDC and know from experience that tensions always flare for a bit but reason always prevails in the end. Whatever the outcome, I hope the hate subsides soon. Peace.

I dont think people care that it was "iraq". The point is that without the bs red card by the ref, iran would have comfortably won this game and there is no denying that. Iraq is a team on amateur level.

You are right, unfortunately many Iraq players including your capitan were shamelessly diving and constantly playing dirty. For this reason I have lost respect for your team. I agree that there is no need to be racist and this game of course does not represent the Iraqi people. However you are a fool if you don't accept that many Iraqis absolutely hate Iran, and it is proven through social media and actions. They too do not represent all of you. Iraq played a dirty game and did not deserve the win under any circumstance. This is why we are mad. I have no issue with Iraqi people in fact I have many Iraqi friends, Muslim, chaldean, Assyrien and kurd. Very similar people .

I do not dislike Iraqi people in the least. I am hurt by the results of the match, but my anger is more towards Arabs generally. I am not saying Iraq bought the match, quite the contrary.

I consider it more that the Arab Football Conference has a vendetta to screw Iran and Iraq just happened to fall into place to be the team to do this to us. We are angry and want satisfaction for what we and many third-parties see as a travesty to sport. Arabs are the Iranians' sworn enemy. You poor Iraqis are just their pawns. I do not wish any harm to the Iraqi people, but I wish a plague upon the houses of the fat rich bastards swarfing down their hummus and cheering on UAE at AFC headquarters.

nahnu wahid. ana behib shab al-iraqi. the thing is, i think most of us are mad, cause we know we can/could get the title this year. dont want to be rude, but u have no chance against korea. please rewatch our game till the red card. we were clearly better. it was our best game. we lost complete structure and tactics etc afterwards. but all this has nothing to do with your team as you were very fair. the red card would never been giving in a world cup match.
i would love to see u win the cup, but of course first im cheering for teammelli. allah ma'ak

We are furious mostly at the referee and not the Iraqis. Williams screwed with us in the first game and also called a terrible penalty against Uzbekistan. While there was an open investigation going on, AFC decided to put Williams against us again. I'm sure if Jordan or Palestine had qualified as well, they would have done the same. This has nothing to do with Iraqis but mostly with what Qataris and Bahrainis have in mind for us.

I agree with you.. I'm mostly angry with the referee, I don't blame Iraq's footballers on the pitch, I dont think they did anything wrong (reminding the ref it was pooladi second yellow).. They're competitive just like team melli players and did everything to win, same way our team melli players would. In my opinion the players or Iraqis are not at fault at all.

Sumerian aziz, you've made many sensible points that I've tried mostly unsuccessfully get across.

I think you should give the field of Public Relations a serious try!

I think, what you meant to say is that Iranians and Iraqis are so much alike, but it sounds like you are saying is that all Iraqis christian, muslim, Assyrian or Kurd are the same!

You've always been a great member on this forum.
No one should be racist. That is just wrong.
However please note that for all the racist Iranian comments there are also plenty of racist Iraqi comments (calling us ajam, magi, referring to the Iran-Iraq war, hoping for very bad things to happen to Iranians, using sexist language towards Iranian women...).
                          Neither is right.
Let's hope justice is served regardless.

But there is also a Legal Regulation to this, set by FIFA, that MUST be followed!
Exactly the way it was followed in less than 24 hrs towards Iran's olympic team in favour of IRAQ in 2012!

Same law applies here, and its nonesence that it takes so long!
Law is Law, and must be honoured!
There is no way around it! period!
