Where would we be without Ashkan and Gucci?

These are two players that we had been chasing for a long time under previous coaches. Years prior to Gucci joining TM his name kept popping up and Ashkan I remember since 2005. Both have become core parts of our TM lineup. Had CQ not been able to convince them to come to TM we would be in much worse condition. Gucci is awesome to have but I think we somehow might have been able to find another forward (such as Azmoun of AJB) had he not joined TM but Ashkan is simply a vicious workhorse that I see no replacement for. His skills aside just looking at him must be intimidating for our opponents. He has the face of "Come near me and I'll break your jaw". I can't help but think how we would have fared had he been available for the 2010 cycle. What player do we currently have that would come close to what he does on the field?
I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

To make a long story short, I highly doubt we would have made it to the World Cup if Gucci had not been called up. He is the best thing happened to TM in a while since we had very hard time in scoring goals with an out-form Ansarifard back in 2011/2012.

Dejagah really dissapointed me in AC, I expected him to be TM's best player and even the best player of the tournament, Only player I expected to be better then Dejagah was Honda

He had to have pain injections for the Iraq game so one assumes he wasn't anywhere near full fitness for the tournament. Harsh to rate him on that basis.

You can see AJ maybe providing the star quality we currently rely on Ashkan for and Azmoun is obviously well on the way to covering for Gucci but where 2014 was involved, we would have been nowhere near the side we were without either of them. Frankly, we wouldn't have qualified for the tournament without Gucci. The future however is bright where replacements for these two are concerned. It's CM that's the worry.

Agreed both are quality players, but I didn't see any otehr forward being able to accomplish what Reza did in the qualifications. He really saved us, and it was also due to support from Ashkan and our other players. Dejagah is definately the most skilled player on the team, and Reza is our game changer. Lucky to have both, really hope JB can start adapting to the line up and Azmoun is being amazing too. The future looks good for us.

Agreed. My question is in regards to sarbazi. How come pooladi is being chased for sarbazi but players like dejagha and Gucci who I don't believe did sarbazi are OK?

I was thinking about this recently. CQ critics like to brush this fact - that without CQ, Gucci and Ashkan wouldn't have joined - under the rug. Gucci is the most lethal TM striker I've ever seen. He's so incredibly opportunistic. It's a shame he's not at a bigger club because he's quality. Without him we don't go to WC2014.

Ashkan is another huge coup for us. I'm only sad that we didn't get him much sooner. We could have used him in AC2007, AC 2011, and WC2010 qualifiers. Back then he was tearing it up in Wolfsburg and was an absolute beast, had a realistic shot of making the Germany squad.

                Good Thread.

Ashkan also said in an interveiw after the loss to Ben William's, that he was taking anti pain killers as he was not 100% fit for that game.
He is a true non stop runner and fighter. This is what you get when you learn to play football in Germany and go through all their youth levels.
BTW Uli Stilieke, current hyper strict and physically very demanding coach of South korea, was Ashkan's coach when he played for Germany's youth teams.... and we can see the results today.

Same with Gucci, learning football in netherlands and playing through all the youth levels of Dutch teams, and the result is a 100% scorer, who saved us soo many times in critical moments.

I thank you for this thread, and point is if we would have a decent league WITH proper YOUTH programmes, then no matter who our coach is, we would be able to play quality football with eleven Dejagahs and Guccis.
But if we don't have those facilities, what do we expect from National team headcoach? playing 100% pressing and attcking football ala Man Utd or tikki taka ala Barcelona? lol

Also in all fairness I would like to suggest the name of Ando Teymourian to be mentioned along with these two players as well.
The running and fighting spirit of Ando is remarkable to say the very least. In every game he gives 110% full 90 mins + extra time.

Have eyou ever seen any of them ever complianing or mocking about a coach or a club?

We really need to appreciate these players!

the ONLY reason we have the services of Ashkan, Gucci, Davari, batashour etc....is because of the name Carlos Quiroz!!! otherwise none of them would commit to iran under qotbi, daei, GN etc...
you see this phenomena in North American sport where athletes want to play for a specific coach.
IF CQ stays with iran i am sure more iranians would be invite to TM from Europe, the 2nd and 3rd generation iranians that will have not chance at playing in their host country will surly want to play in iran for a chance to play in WC 2018!!!
                  IRI = FAILED

To me the difference between Ando and Ashkan is the visible nastiness. They both run non stop and play an excellent game but Ashkan is just plain scary when he's on his game. Opponents might try things against Ando that they wouldn't dare with Ashkan.

Another example I can think of is the pk against Argentina that the ref didn't call. Ashkan was livid and had no problem showing his anger to the point where I wondered whether he was gonna actually put his hands on the ref. No disrespect to our 98 team but I didn't see intense reactions like that when Azizi got take down in the box by the US.

Edit: Looking at pics of this incident I just noticed this. I hope Ashkan wasn't actually spitting intentionally at the ref.

They both grew up outside of Iran, and if you left iran before a certain year then you become exempt from military service (you are allowed to buy it)
