Ben Williams' terrible decision put us in disadvantage, no doubt about it. But it didn't ruin our chances for good. We were 1-0 up with 45 minutes to go. It didn't completely made it "Game Over" for us. If we were 80% as AMAZING and as "shoo-in to win the tournament", "Defensively amazing" according to most PFDC threads and reactions since, we'd be able to see the game out and manage the game against a frankly Mediocre Iraq side. It's again, a case of going to extreme, and everything operating in 1s or 10s, as the case is here. We're either the "BEST" or we're "Completely Useless". Like a 14 year old girl with daddy issues.

We fucking love fluctuating in absolute terms. We absolutely love it. It's part of our culture. And one of many reasons we'll never reach our true potential.
yes, it did ruin our chance to win. Most teams do lose when down 1 player. In fact most teams eventually fall apart completely and you see lopsided losses.

Losing a player means every strategy or game plan you prepare for can be thrown out the door especially that early in the game. Players have to play different positions, substitutions have to be done earlier to make up for tired players, and in this case, we lost a key player on our defense which meant we suffered even more.

I find it funny when people on PFDC make comments such as "we need to attack more" or "we need to play with gheyrat" as soon as we went down by 1 player. These are comments from people watching the games on their laptops. No one is saying we need to raise the white flag and surrender, but when you are down a player, it's inevitable that you have to pull back and defend.

Ben Williams was out to get us no doubt!,

      1. Gave Pouladi a red card for basically nothing.

      2. You could see how happy Younis Mahmoud was from the start of the game with that sly, ugly, creepy child molester in the mosque face of his.

Well iranian football will have a hard time progress because of the islamic republic and IFF. However the match against Iraq was just a disaster, referee fucked us good there we have every right to complain about him & the Arab Football Confederation.

But with that being said, i think some iranian footballers have a weak mentality when things starts to going against them.

It's ironic, not to say tragic, that the reaction of most people to this thread confirms everything the first poster criticizes about Iranians.

It's uncanny mate. Something I think, we are a fascist'/autocrat' wet dream. The way we get riled up and soldier up when somethings doesn't go to our wavelength and get manipulated and go to massive extremes to justify it. CQ's status has fluctuated from on par with Akbar Misaghian to "the real genius behind Ferguson's success" on here over the years. Hell, I bet you anything that a good percentage of posters here probably think he's a top 10 manager in the world. Love having a hero and god and just campaign behind him. It's like that movie..."Die Welle".
Take the notion of "No elite team in the world no longer plays 4-4-2 (Excuses why we can't play Reza and Sardar together" that is being spouted here for the past few days. Completely forgetting:
                - Man City/Liverpool who came 1st and 2nd in PL last season both played variations of 4-4-2 (one diamond, the other 4-2-2-2)
                - Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, the two CL finalists last season both play lob-sided 4-4-2 (if you see average positions)
                - Argentina reached the WC final playing a 4-3-1-2 that can be a form of 4-4-2.
once again, showing how once a notion is in their head, it's an absolute.. They only know 4-4-2 as a FLAT LINE 4-4-2. like the one Man Utd played in 1999 CL final with Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole up front. that's 4-4-2 and no other thing is 4-4-2. Because there can never be variety versions to a story or narrative. Everything fluctuates in absolutes. They have to be fed what they want to be fed and have to hear what they want to hear. Fascism' wet dream, as I said.

elnino99 is a well respected member here and has been for a while. The least everyone here can do is show some intelligence and awareness to thoughts and opinions. You're welcome to express your own opinion but be a little more civilized for fux sake.

If you're lashing out, you are one of many Iranians who are holding the reality of what we stand for back.

IR messes up day to day life and the economy and football and ... but they're not the ones selecting shitty referees or making absurd schedules or bribing every fat bastard in Asia and FIFA to have their way.

Different arguments here, there's one thing arguing if a team should still hold up with 10 men, there's another if we lost to AFC and they conspired against us.

I think most posts about the conspiracy theory started with the Doping issue treatment by AFC and not so much the actual game. I give you they were hints such as why Benjamin was chosen for this game despite iran's objection in the background of Bahrain game, but I think overall we lost to a madman that took matters into his own hands and were biased - the 2 yellows were naive and a simple example of not giving a yellow to Iraqi goalie for pushing pouladi.

Hell even mark Bosnic has his doubts and he is not an Iranian!

I think we were fucked over by Ben Williams & AFC, but Iranians and Middle Easterns in general tend to have a conspiracy theorist mentality at times:

That, as well as stubbornness, jealousy and envy are common in our cultures in my opinion.

You should change the title of your thread:

"All Media's joint conclusion of terrible refereeing in Iraq vs Iran game - save Arab nations"

because whatever I read on: Fox Sports (non Iranian), Reuters (non Iranian), Yahoo Sports (non Iranian), Kicker (non Iranian) ...etc etc
confirm the fact that Ben Willams destroyed a game Iran was about to win!

So, please call it: World's blame mentality, and not only "Iranian", if you like to, cause its not fair and you disregard the articies that were published by other media.

Of course, if you read Al Arabi, or Kuwait times, than yes Iraq beat us fair and square and Iranians are bad losers (similar like 2004 and 1996) and Pooladi deserved the yellow cards by the fairest ref on earth Ben Williams!

                              lol

while i definitely agree that us iranians are generally people who like to assume, accuse and jump to conclusions, come up with all sort of theories to justify our beliefs and view points, and never fail to point finger at others, we should also not lose focus by trying the otherway around as well and just blame ourselves for everything cos if we do that, we will lose confidence in ourselves. this is not just an iranian, but generally a middle eastern attitude and i believe part of this because we are very strong opinionated people in general and will go to any imaginary extent to argue over a point.

there is no doubt that 3 times we were real championship material in asian cup (1996, 2004, 2014), and all 3 times, we got screwed by refereeing. now whether these were intentionally planned by AFC or was it because the referee personally favoured the other team or this is just the standard of asian refereeing is up for debate but we cant deny the fact that in all those 3 games, the referee's calls were ridiculous for any neutral supporter as well.
so that means while we should definitely work on our weaknesses, we also must not just accept watever comes to us and always blame ourselves alone. yes, maybe we were in the finals today if our attitude/infrastructure/management was better but also we could be in the finals if ben williams wouldnt have "killed the game" as mark bosnich put it in his analysis.

as for ridiculous claims such as joining UEFA, i guess when people are angry or desperate, their mind will think of anything to try and find a solution which is not a bad thing cos it means they are not losing hope, but again as i said, we iranians (and middle easterns) are very strong opinionated and go to any extend to prove a point. we dont have the "Agree to disagree" attitude in our culture and always want to "correct" each other into people viewing things from our point of view only since its the only correct one (something we probably learn from our parents and family)
