and no, you are wrong. KB's role is best suited for an open game and not against teams packing it in. He is not a physical player, and he certainly will not win the one-on-one battles. That's why his best moments can be seen in games where he comes in as a sub.

When you face a tight defense, it means your midfielders and your strikers will be involved in many more one-on-one physical plays. It means you have less space to work with. There are certain players like Karimi who can break down these tight defenses because they are physically strong players that can also dribble/pass. KB at 120 lbs is not that type of player. KB is a player that does best in the open space. The goal against Uzbekistan was the result of a broken up play, with lots of space for KB to work with. KB is also not the type of player to come back and make defensive stops the way Dejagah and yes, even Shojaei do. In CQ's system, this is a must, and not a nice to have ability. As others have mentioned, he is a one dimensional player. He is exciting and fun to watch as a fan, but his game is limited. There is a reason why no European team ever gave him a chance.“It is easier to fool the people, than to convince them they have been fooled." - Mark Twain

Look, KB is one of the most gifted players ever to have been developed in Iran. In fact, I would rate him as one of the 10 best Iranian players ever. In terms of touch and control, he is better then every other player from Iran, maybe with the exception of Karimi and Roshan. He has so much going for him, he is quick, great on the ball, vision is sublime, two footed, shots are powerful and accurate, and he is a versatile player.
Yes he is short and isn't heavy, but does that make him weak? How many times has he stole the ball from an opponent who was much "stronger" then he was? Plenty. Its not about weight, its about what you can do with it. Not to mention of course, his low center of gravity makes him ideal to challenge for on ground balls.
Its stupid to hear that KB can not break down compact defenses, in fact, I would say that is where he can really benefit his team. He has the ability to get by men in tight spaces, creating more room in the opponents half/box essentially, leading to more dangerous chances, rather then just knock the ball around and have an effort from way out. He has proved this time and time again, and he was robbed by CQ for not being invited to Brazil, when he could have sparked our dwindling offense, especially against a side like bosnia. Again, we saw his presence missed at the Asian Cup, where he could have really tore those arabs to shreds.
The thing is, KB has confidence on the ball, no one can deny that. Does he hold on to the ball to long sometimes, of course. But can he pass and play the role of CAM, yup, better then the likes of you know who

KB was coached by Diego Maradona for crying out loud. Are you sure you are not making too many comparisons with the American football? (NFL)
If you just do a simple youtube search, you will see that KB in the russia game was wide open. No defenders in front of him when he got the ball. That's his strength. Also what does KB playing in the ACL games have to do with the discussion that his game is not suited for tightly defended games.

Here's the open space being referred to:

And in the last pic below, he only had to dribble one defender. The other three in the vicinity did not pressure him and only one attempted to tackle as he was shooting:
