Shire Beiranvand, Mottahari, Mobali, Mansourian and the rest of the team and congratulations to Naft for making it to the group stage of the champions league for the very 1st time.
Not the prettiest of Naft's games by any means, but considering their lack of experience at the continental level, a VERY sweet win. I can only see them getting better going forward.
We have 3 current TM players on this team (not to mention Mottahari in the U-23) and the additional experience they gain at this stage will be invaluable without a doubt.

Iran, Uzbekistan, Japan, S. Korea and China with 4 representatives each. The Saudis have a chance to match that record later today when Al Ahli takes on Al Qadsia of Kuwait.
UAE teams having a terrible day with Al Jazira already eliminated earlier today and Al-Wahda having been behind to Al Sadd with 2/3rd of the game gone, but Al Wahda have manged to tie the game 2-2, minute 75.

Props to Naft and Mansourian for playing beautiful football and a crucial win. Naft has been playing pretty much the best football in IPL for the past 3 seasons. Keeping up the trend with their current coach Mansourian is quite delightful to watch!

Mansourian with few years of international game management should be able to take the next step up to Team Meli mangememt, but even right now he would make the right hand man to CQ.
I love the way he's groomed this young side. I agree the game and the way Naft played was a delight to watch, although having said that Algeish for all their huffs and puffs were toothless.sigpic

Naft players had a better passing game than TM ever had last 3-4 years.
I like how people always give the excuse that players can't pass in the IPL so we are "forced" into playing an anti-football/non-passing game and CQ making the best out of what he has. That's not true, I can name more than a couple of teams in the IPL that have better passing than TM. It has to do with Mr.Carlos's ideology and tactics, not with Iranian players. With all the talented attacking players coming up, CQ HAS to change his tactic to something more offensive now.

If a bunch of u23 players at naft can pass the ball around then im pretty sure tm can aswell. So the people saying iran plays that way because of a lack of talent should find something else.
Naft was great in defense and midfield but didnt have much attacking flair. Hopefully motaheri can score some goals to get them out of the group stage but they will definitely be a good representative.
