They didn't take them lightly, Lebanon is actually a very good team (one of the best in Asia IMHO). They went out of the last tournament with a single loss against Japan (then defending champions) with a one goal margin and they just lost to the new defending champions by a one goal margin.

I didn't see the last 5 minutes of the game, but they very were worthy and hard working opponents and well deserving of going pretty far in this tournament. Of course, Thailand are no push-overs either (3-time WC participants if I'm not mistaken), so overall this is by far the toughest group. We did miss some really good chances too.

You are very wrong, they lost to Oman 5-1 in group stage of 2014 Asian Beach Games only few months ago, they learned their lesson and won the tournament later but not convincingly. they beat UAE on penalties and Japan by just one goal.

they also had 3 defeats in 2014 Intercontinental Cup. twice to Portugal and one to Russia.


this team is not unbeatable as some people think. they had their prime in 2012/2013 but they are on decline. it happens when you use the same group of players for more than 10 years !

Thanks for the correction. I must have blocked last November out of my memory completely - it was quite a stressful time in my defense!

Lebanon beat Thailand in overtime which means Iran already secured a place in quarterfinal. but in Group C, UAE just lost to Uzbekistan, which means if Iran top the group D (likely to happen) we have to play the worst possible opponent UAE in do or die quarter-final match. UAE was always a tough opponent for Iran in beach soccer.
