Please, let’s not exaggerate to think just because one former world class player is playing for that team it will really improve PAG's game. Xavi is not even a defender and TBH I don’t think he is really keen to help the youngsters there or cares for the club - he is just there for the money before he retires.

It will never be worth it to play in some 8-0er league unless you are on the verge of retiring from football.

It's beyond me how anyone could find any positives for Morteza Pouraliganji playing in the Qatar Stars League at the sensible age of 23

Joining Al Sadd would be him back to square one, playing in the ACL as he could've done with Naft the past season, instead of fighting relegation in freaken China, and this is the only factor that wouldn't be among the negatives.
We can still hope that it's just a rumor and he won't leave there, but if he does we should turn ourselves to Kanaani and hope the best for him, he is even younger than PAG but proving to be so solid for his age, I really have high hopes for him.

In his latest interview he confirms the Qatari offer but he hasn't answered to any offer. According to this report he has offers from China, Korea, Japan and Iran. However, he doesn't want to return to Iran. It seems that he doesn't have any European offers right now.

Sure it would, experienced players in a squad are always a massive guide to the younger players in attitude, training, and skill. That is regardless of their being legendary players or not. Look at how the younger players at a team such as, say, Arsenal have gone on and on about how much they've learned from Mikel Arteta, Petr Cech, and Per Mertesacker or look at any squad really. The position doesn't need to be the same, though PAG can play in midfield let's not forget, because there are football qualities that are universal to every position. The qualities Xavi has as a player are his composure, intelligence, tactical nuance, close control, passing, off the ball running, and empathy of the players around him. He learned how the other players liked to play and adapted himself to suit them when he could. I think he's the perfect player for anyone to play alongside and pick up things from, even now.

Kanaani is 2 years younger and already much better than what PAG was a 21 years old. He is physically stronger as well as a better defender, and right now it looks like Morteza will ruin himself in Qatar with the possibility of not even reaching his full potential.

Not a good sign when you move to an Arab league at 23 years old, he will basically stall his progression.

I wasn’t denying the fact that older experienced players can help youngsters - but to say just because Xavi is playing for Al "whatever" it would be worth it to join the club is waaaaay too much, massive exaggeration.

I disagree on both counts. PAG has a superior leap, is a better header of the ball, and has better close control and passing. He has the potential to be Iran's modern ball-playing center back for years to come. The thing he needs to work on the most is his composure and his decision making, as sometimes he can be rash. Simultaneously, however; he has a lot of heart and that can lift a team as well. Kanaani is a very promising upcoming player but he hasn't encountered the same experiences that PAG has had in his career. He can be a very good defender too, albeit a different type than PAG.

To address the crux of the problem, which is the bias against the Qatari league and the compulsion of PDF residents to dismiss any Iranian who opts to play in that league, I don't see the QSL very far from the IPL. In fact, the top QSL teams rival the top IPL teams. The insistence that a player playing in Qatar over Iran is career-destroying one is a myth.

As for the age, 21 and 23 is not a relevant gap. They're both in their early 20's and gaining experience. A look at the careers of such as Nolito of Celta Vigo or France Coquelin of Arsenal show that the boom-bust race of football potential is not quite as clear in real life as it is on paper.. In the cases of PAG and Kanaani, they're both developing footballers and, as CBs, their best years are far ahead of them. They have plenty to learn and look forward to.
