Winning or losing against Russia won't change much in ranking.
If we had defeated Syria we would have had pot 3 secured.
Now it looks like Senegal, Egypt and Tunisia are going to make it from Africa, and they will be higher ranked than Iran.
We have to pray for a low ranked European team (e.g. Greece) to make it to the World Cup so they could fall in pot 4.
Pot 4 will have these teams:
1. Japan
2. South Korea
3. Saudi Arabia
4. Winner CONCACAF/AFC
5. Serbia
6. Nigeria
7. Ivory Coast
8. ???
??? = this could be Iran if we are unlucky. But hopefully it will be Burkina Faso/ Cape Verde or a lower ranked European team

Pots in WC draw aren't based on FIFA rankings (only the top pot is), it's intercontinental so we avoid teams of same continent.
For example:
TOP SEED: Russia, Germany, Spain, Poland, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, Switzerland (if the draw was tomorrow)
Pot 2: All other 8 European teams
Pot 3: 5 African teams + 3 Concacaf teams
Pot 4: 5 Asian teams + 3 other Conmebol teams.
3 and 4 could vary and is subject to change, depending who wins intercontinental playoffs

You haven't been following the FIFA news
For the draw, the teams will be allocated to four pots based on the FIFA World Rankings of October 2017. Pot 1 will contain the hosts Russia (which will be automatically assigned to Position A1) and the best seven teams, Pot 2 will contain the next best eight teams, and so on for Pots 3 and 4.[50] This will be different from previous draws, where only Pot 1 was based on FIFA Rankings while the remaining pots were based on geographical considerations. Same as previous editions, teams from the same confederation will not be drawn against each other for the group stage, except for UEFA where each group can contain up to two teams.

Holland will play a final against direct opponent Sweden at home. About Holland you are right, I am not sure if general goalaverage is first criteria
