I'm not saying CQ is better or Diego Simeone is better, but you could also argue that CQ doesn't need to face Ronaldo, Messi, Bale, Neymar etc, but Arab teams.
And I love CQ as much as anyone else, but if he was on the same level as Diego Simeone, Guardiola, Mourinho etc, he would never be working in Iran. He is a world class coach, but those mentioned are the best in the business.

He doesn't say the game has been cancelled or that CQ is refusing to play Italy. He says that they've put the plans on hold for now until they can have a meeting to discuss the alternatives in the technical committee, because CQ feels that we can have 3 quality games for the cost of playing Italy.

Of course when it comes to arranging friendlies, IFF struggles even with things that fall on its lap, so I don't think this is going to end up being a choice between Italy or 3 decent teams, rather Italy and 3 crappy teams or nothing at all.

Hopefully, the Italians will just get off their high horse and lower their price since they're already booked that day.
The interesting part is that Kafashian says they need money to play Chile (and he says they will borrow it from CQ). So of course CQ will be like instead of that don't play Italy. Cheraghi ke be khaneh ravast be masjed haram ast.

No matter how terrible Italy has gotten since euro 2012, the exposure that our players get playing against giant teams like Italy is no where close to playing 3 other mediocre teams.

Ali Karimi didn't go to Europe with playing friendlies against Uzbekistan, South Korea etc... He went to europe because we played against GERMANY.

Again we were all hoping that a couple of our good players will transfer to better teams after an excellent performance against Argentina and that didn't happen, but when the scouts see consistency in our players playing against top teams, they will eventually transfer to a much better team.

But we are a team that regularly has a chance making it to the World Cup where we can face them in the group stages too.
I say good on our federation if we decline this offer.
mofteh baba. 1.5 million is chump change. this game will have at least 100 million watching. if akhoonds were not there you would have companies and investors lining up to get the rights for this game. 1.5 million this is an opportunity to play italy and make millions of revenue, it is only due to akhoond mostara system that it seems like an expense. mofteh, moft! if we want our football to advance seda va sima has to pay to broadcast games. they will make that money back with the first few commercials. 1.5 million is a joke!

LOL. Kaffashian's definitely a high roller with other people's money, but he was freakin' out over $30k and that wasn't even his money!

We talk about money as if You'd think Iran and particularly our football is so bloody diligent and disciplined about its expenditure!

After all we have clubs that pay several hundred thousands of dollars for injured players who play a total of 2 minutes (or less in case of ss ) and then when the clubs don't pay their full fees, go to FIFA and we end up paying that money plus fines!!! Or spend bundles on useless coaches who come, don't do jack sh*t and get fired. But receive full payment.
Or as a country we go and spend billions in all sorts of crappy nations, build hospitals for terrorist groups, send billions of $ in arms for many other mercenary groups.

But suddenly we're being calculating about how to have a marquee match that more than half of it the sponsors will cover anyway!!!

I'm not saying asking that much money is justified. But we certainly can't pretend as if we're so disciplined and principled with our expenditure anyway. On a season basis our football WASTES several times that money on totally useless, worthless crap

Now, before anyone tries to be smart aleki and say we're playing Chile and Sweden, i'd say pause and think. This is something that has great luck and fortune written on it. It's not as if it is a regular occurrence that we get such invites. We haven't had many in our history and I seriously don't see it changing anytime soon ... until we enter a major int'l competition and either win the bloody thing or play such ATTRACTIVE FOOTBALL that attracts big teams' attention.

We have failed in both on recent history.
So don't hold your breath for more such invites and take them for what they are, which is pure fluke and good fortune. And we can't ''plan based on having good luck''. Makes no sense.

But I feel I'm wasting my time. No matter how I open up the discussion and bring reasons and explanations. There will always be some (loyal and obedient) chaps who just can't bear someone even looking ''chap chap'' at coaches, and get their panties in a bunch!!!
                        Sigh!

Unfortunately CQ=God for some Iranians. I saw a video of people coming to support TM which is good at it nature but a delusional pathetic guy had this sign with him"CQ your are more Iranian than most of Iranians, [you are the god], we love you,..[let us kiss your feet and worship you]"

Until this behavior doesn't change we are just "ab to havang mikobim". Why should some of us make CQ like an Idol and some make him such an evil I cannot figure it out yet! Is that Mullah had played with our minds so much that we are going crazy or what?

since he is obviously not a god figure to you, who do you suggest as a replacement for CQ. Just throw a few names out there

                              GN, Drkhsh, Memet Mayeli,....
Seriously: There are many names to come by but I rather watch the team progress for a little more, then I give my suggestion. For now, I prefer to watch and find more flaws. For me CQ is not flawless coach but hasn't been without his good effect as well. He changed the defensive mentality in TM and gave the true meaning of organized team. He ruined the old system of building the team around big names with special treatments which helps us a lot. Rahmati, Aghili,... were sent off. and even big names such as Karimi were put aside with respect and a little politic.
I think he has some flaws that he has been fixing few of them and some advantages which are losing colors.
                              1. He was focused on Iranian diaspora more than he should be on IPL. We got Ashkan and Gucci who were truly helpful for us but what about other foreign based player such as Davari, Beit Ashour, ...?!
                              A. From AC 15 onward he has been focusing more on IPL and brought some good talents to TM. I see that as an improvement.
                              2. He was so stubborn on his squad of oldies that younger players had no chance before WC. Some people like Khosro Heidari have no place in TM, or injured Sadeghi.
Once again he tried to fix this flaw from AC 15 which is also an improvement. He used to insist on Karim and Gucci as first choice and you saw the result. Gucci was not bad in WC or friendly but Karim was a total wasting position. He gave the opportunity to Sardar and he scored 4 times in our friendlies or AC matches while passing Gucci and giving him warning. Our younger players except Amiri played almost better than our fix squid.
                              3. He used to have an ultra defensive tactic which causes a boring less creative match with very few goals and at the same time hard to equalize when we are behind because he had not enough attacking MFs.
                              B. From AC matches we saw he brought more energetic young AMDs who helped to create more goal opportunities and brought us back on our feet during that controversial match against Iraq. So this is also another improvement or rather say experimenting
                              4. CQ seems to fear matches against big teams and we had crappy camps in Africa playing against weak clubs or obscure teams to keep his undefeated records. Now, either under fans pressure or to salvage some pride after AC disaster, he has agreed to play against Chile and Sweden (which were scheduled put not 100% confirmed before AC) and he is insisting to not let Sardar or JB go for U22 (which I agree but it add up to my theory). He is not taking those matches as simple friendlies but a source of proving points and building credentials (which I support if he continues this path).
                              5. I think CQ has been a good cause for our football because he knows how to play with press and put IFF and corrupt individuals in spot light. At the same time he knows how to misuse it to gain support among the fans to secure his seat which is not healthy because every single person should be open to criticism and takes the constructive ones into the account.
                              6. CQ is very good at youth level and I would love to have him as our U20 TM manager even if we choose to replace him in TM.
                              7. Going to AC with an injured LB back up was a big mistake, once we lost Pooladi we conceded 2 goals and gave one penalty from same spot which Hajsafi could not cover. I saw the highlight with Iraq and on every single goal or penalty scene Hajsafi should be blamed. I think he was not ready for that position since he was pushed forward to Left wing.

It pretty sums up some of my points.
If we criticize him it does not mean we hate him. I personally nor adore him nor despise him.
Side note: I have spoken with bunch of Portuguese fans and they all hated him for his boring defensive style and said he got poor results with one of arguably best generations their county has ever had.

                                1. Stupid thread, close it.

                                2.
The people who say things like "Why do Iranians think CQ is God" and other nonsense have probably never lived or worked in Iran and are just your average kids raised abroad with no sense of how Iran really is but have the audacity to make comments about actual Iranians because they had a 2 week vacation there. If they were actual Iranians, they would realize that for once in their lives, Iranians are seeing someone come on TV and speak the truth to them with the respect they deserve and without any BS. That is why Iranians like CQ, because for once they feel like they have someone that cares about them instead of the typical kaffashian/kashani/f-zadeh/rooyanian-esque official that has the status quo's interest in mind. It's not "kharaji-parasti" or "bot-parasti", it is "no-nonsense" parasti.

                                3. If that didn't get through your thick skulls, try to understand that Iranians like CQ for the same reasons they liked Hejazi.

                                4. Go and ask some real Iranians for insight before you make silly comments.
