Just look at the clubs the players were from. 3 domestic, one Boca, one former European now Mexican based and six from European top leagues in the starting lineup. Then all players that came on between min 46 and 60 were from the European top leagues too. A, B or C team, this was one of the strongest teams we ever faced and apart from Japan no other Asian squad is even near them.

And the fact that their star players are important players for their clubs, not just some benchwarmers..
Bravo for Barca, Medel for Inter, Vidal for Juve, Fernandez for Fiorentina, Sanchez for Arsenal, ...
From all of our players, except for Azmoun and maybe just maybe Jahanbaksh, no player has the quality to play an important role in of those clubs one day..

I personally don't care for friendly contests in any sport. Similar to exhibition games in American Football and the NBA. They have entertainment value and that is it. The best game Iran has played in many years was against WC 2014 runner up, Argentina. That meant a lot me as far as the caliber of the team. However, the loss to Bosnia was like getting dunked in a frozen lake.

Whether this was Chile's A, B, or C squad, they were as strong as or STRONGER than Australia or Japan. So for me, what's so frustrating about this fantastic display is that it reminds me of how badly we were robbed in the Asian Cup. I'm a pessimistic/realistic fan, but we could have definitely won that thing

I would never read too much into a friendly game. The tempo, psychology, and motives of a friendly game are often very different than a competitive game.
Chile will be playing Brazil in a friendly in England on Sunday. Their motives will be totally different. Watch the game and you will see what I mean.
Having said that, I still think Iran's performance on Thursday was great and the experience gained by our players ever greater.

In the old days Communist countries would participate with their full squad and the other teams would do so with their so called amatures squad since professionals were not allowed to participate.
In case of Iran, since none of our players played for a professional team, we were considered amatures, even with our main squad.
Brazil on the other hand had to participate with their amature team since their main squad were considered PROFESSIONALS.

Does anyone have a story or remember the match in which (from wikipedia): In one of the most intriguing encounters of the 1978 WCQ and as a sign of the deep trust in youth, Mohajerani challenged the Kuwaiti Team, under the management of Carlos Alberto and Mario Zagalo, on their home turf in the last match of the World Cup preliminary game. Although Iran had already qualified, it was a matter of honor to keep the unbeaten record of the team. Mohajerani fielded a youth team against the full strength Kuwait and still managed to beat them 2–1 in a historic match.
I asked my father who unfortunately had little details to provide besides it was very hyped because Kuwait was one of the best Asian teams along with our own team in that qualification round. Any further details or context would be most appreciated (e.g., how did this challenge come about? Who was the instigator, what was said...etc.)???Remember RESPECT BEGETS RESPECT & Zob Ahan

^ This was before my time, but from what I know it was not really a "challenge". Kuwait was the first Arab team to splash millions on its football program and by the mid-70s they were a force to be reckoned with. Zagalo coming to coach them was a huge deal because back then a name like that agreeing to manage an Asian team was unheard of. In that game in Kuwait, we had already secured our WC spot so Mohajerani fielded a B Team of mostly youngsters. Zagalo took that as an insult and told Heshmat before the game that not taking this match seriously was not honorable and sportsmanlike. Mohajerani reportedly told him 'I do take this match seriously. This team is good enough to beat your A team'. We did beat them as Heshmat promised, and at the end Zagalo came over and apologized.
