Daie was an excellent scorer, but I wouldn't call him the best leader as all the young guys hated him 2004-2006.
A good leader would not have been a part of the divide that hurt us so much in those years.
The hatred of the young guys had other reasons than Daei's leadership! Between 2004-2006 he was out of form and clearly unable to play like he did before, yet he was still invited and played 90 minutes! That brought the whole bad atmosphere in TM. Before 2004 however, when Daei was in form, he was an excellent leader! He can't be denied that!
Nekounam was a workhorse and he will be truly missed, while he left some big shoes to be filled, I get a feeling that Ezzatollahi will step up and fill Nekonuam's spot very well. I am not a betting man, but I am willing to risk a bet that Ezzatollahi will impress all of us and leave us in awe and inspired.

yup but from 2004, he was hated, alot of tension good players like hashemian would not play for tm a long time, and big games like japan game, portugal game, he was left out or subbed.I think branko was a weak coach who could not tell daei it was over, like cq telling players your no longer needed ,players like rahmati and aghili
Although I find nekounam and Ezatollahi fundamentally different, SAED can definitely fill the shoes of El Capitan
Saed is taller, faster, and has more on the ball attacking ability.
Nekounam IMO was more solid defensively, and was more of an opportunistic scorer.
Hopefully saed will become more solid defensively as time comes.
"Nekounam: the Iranian who fell in love with the red fans
The Iranian Nekounam, the foreign player with the most game in the club's history, played for seven seasons at Osasuna, leaving fond memories for the Navarrese club's fans.
Javad Nekounam, considered one of the best Iranian players in history, is the foreign player with the most historical games played in the history of Osasuna, with a total of 198 games, where he played for seven seasons. In addition, he was the first Iranian to play in the Spanish League.
The Iranian player, before coming to Osasuna, played in Pas Tehran in his native country for eight seasons and where he went on to win the Iranian league in the 2003/2004 season and compete in the Asian Champions League where he scored 9 goals. In the 2005/2006 season, he played for two teams in the United Arab Emirates, first in Al Wahda, and then in Al Sharjah, and the following season he decided to try his luck in Spanish soccer, specifically in Osasuna, a club that came free, and after rejecting offers from major clubs such as Tottenham and Olympique de Lyon, after his participation in the 2006 World Cup held in Germany with the Iranian team. Osasuna decided to put a termination clause of 5 million euros.
His first game was the one before the qualification for the Champions League that Osasuna played, after having finished fourth in the league and finalist in the Copa del Rey the previous season, against Hamburg, which had well-known players such as Van der Vaart or Kompany. Despite tying the two games, due to the double value of goals away from home, Osasuna failed to qualify and had to play in the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League)
Europe as a showcase to show off In his first season he already had the confidence of Osasuna's coach, Cuco Ziganda. His first league game came at the Camp Nou against Barcelona, and his first goal would be in December, after a landslide against Villarreal. He became a regular piece as a defensive pivot, who accompanied by Puñal, both formed an inseparable pair in the midfield for several seasons. In addition, he contributed to Osasuna going far in the UEFA Cup, scoring a goal in the last minutes of the extension in the tie against Girondins de Bordeaux that meant the pass to the second round. After defeating Rangers and Bayer Leverkusen in the following heats, the European dream ended after falling eliminated in the semifinals by Sevilla, who would later win the title.
At the beginning of the following season, Nekounam was named the best Iranian player of 2006. But not everything was going to be joys since in a friendly match against Villarreal the Iranian suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee, which left him without playing most of the season. Despite that injury, the red club decided to renew him until 2011.
The following season was one of the best seasons for the roijillo player, who despite injury suffered the previous season, won the title from the first day, both with Cuco Ziganda and after his cessation, with José Antonio Camacho. He scored eight goals, helping Osasuna to stay one more season in First, after achieving permanence on the last day after a victory at home against Real Madrid. He received offers from Spanish clubs such as Villarreal or Espanyol, but Nekounam decided to stay at the Navarrese club.
In the following three seasons, Nekounam continued to be a fixture in Osasuna's eleven, leaving a good balance of goals each season, becoming the team's free- kick shooter and penalty kicker, and being a player who did very well on air balls. He even wore the captain's armband in some games, especially when Patxi Puñal was not on the pitch. In addition, in 2010, the rojillo club brought another Iranian, Masoud, to accompany him in the core.
In July 2012, after rejecting offers from other clubs for several seasons, he decided to leave Osasuna and returned to his country, arriving free at Esteghlal FC . There he played for a season and a half, where he won another league title again, after winning it in 2004. He then went to Al Kuwait FC, where he managed to win the Emir Cup.
Return with controversy
But in the summer of 2014 , after participating in the World Cup in Brazil, he decided to return to Osasuna despite having dropped to the Second Division the previous season. Although the player scored 5 goals, it was not the season the Iranian expected. First, because he missed many games, at the beginning of the season due to problems with the transfer between the Spanish and the Kuwaiti federation and in January due to administrative problems related to the procedures for the player's viewing (and that of his Iranian teammate Ansarifard), after his return to Spain after the participation of his team in the Asian Cup. Second because Osasuna spent the whole season fighting not to go down to Second Division B, who after a draw at the last minute against Sabadell on the last day of the league thanks to the goal of Javi Flaño, confirmed the permanence of Osasuna in the silver category of Spanish football.
The following season was to be his last as a player. Nekounam left Osasuna and returned to his country, where he would play in the ranks of Saipa FC. In January he announced his departure to Qatari soccer, exactly to Al-Arabi SC , where at the end of the season he confirmed his retirement from professional soccer.
Right now, Nekounam, having been the second coach of Carlos Quieroz with the Iranian team, is the coach of Foolad , a team in the Iranian league. But in the future, who knows, we still see Nekounam leading the red team from the bench, doing it just as well as he did on the field, where he became one of the idols of Osasuna's fans."
^good ol times ..!! he was just about the only legionnaire in EU we had and we all looked so forward to Osasuna games every weeked..!!
man, i tell you, Javaad was a beast of a DMdr prior to his nasty knee injury that sidelined him for nearly a year..!! he recovered somewhat and continued to perform admirably at club and for TM for many more years after it but imo, his overall game never could match the year he took Osasuna deep into European cup..!!
i was sure he'd get snatched up by an Elite EU club after that season...some higher profile La Liga team possible transfer rumors surfaced but i think many higher profile EU clubs looked past him due to his nationality or something..?? cause from pure footballing talent az beeshtarin kasaie ke too top EU clubs DM bazi mikardan oon zamoona hichi kam nadashed..!
