Islam is honorable when it is in mosque and religious school not when it is mixed with power and politics and causes restriction and misery for people. People should be free and on their free will to choose their path and how intense they want to follow that not being forced to! So I say take the religion out of flag which is a symbol for all of us not part of us!
That IR flag can be flag of Qom or Jamkaran but not national flag (in my opinion)

There are millions Secular, Left, Nationalist, spiritual, non radical muslim Iranians that can not relate to IR symbol in the central of flag and allahu akbar repetitive slogan between color borderlines. I can not relate to these part, ideology and the people who represent that. I can even live with simple tricolor Iranian flag with no sign in it but not IR symbol in our flag. Lion and Sun flag unify more Iranian under the same roof, if they give the free right to the people to choose. I know even some former IR army personnel who worked all their lives under Noon khamei's command and were on his payroll, preferred to have Lion and Sun flag over the current one.
Religion and spirituality should be in your heart not flashing on your flag!
read here about the history of sun and lion before arguing that is political bla bla

A) It's not the official flag of current day Iran. Argue whatever you want, you can't argue you this...
B) Based on who the players are representing, they play for present-day Iran, which again, is represented by the current flag. It's like you're a Washington Wizards fan (NBA in case you don't follow), but you refuse to call them the Wizards but instead the "Bullets" whenever you refer to them...it's a joke in the eyes of everyone else.
C) By waving a shir-o-khorshid flag, you're sending a political statement as opposed to a nationalistic statement. You're point becomes invalid here in the eyes of others who see it, say, the Swedes for instance. They were all probably confused as most of them probably had never seen the old flag before.
Isn't the point of waving an Iranian flag at sporting events to show who you're representing?! What's the point of waving a flag that no one knows what it is? If your goal is something otherwise, then go nuts and wave the S-o-K flag all you want...Last edited by Behzad12; 03-31-2015, 07:28 PM.

I'm not going to argue this anymore, but I still think it's an utter joke that people insist on raising the old flag in front of others in the world, when no one really knows what it is outside of us Iranians. Isn't the point of waving an Iranian flag at sporting events to show who you're representing?! If your goal is something otherwise, then go nuts and wave the S-o-K flag all you want...WE ARE THE UNDER DOGS

Why shouldn't we see such great and amazing crowd in our stadiums? what is wrong with this? During our AC games in Australia and today's match Nto a single foul language or profanity was heard, not a single TM bashing chant, not booing the team, no early stadium abandoning, no fights, no anti-ref chants, even at its worst moments (Against Iraq) and the positive list goes on and on...
Why can't we have all of the above in our stadiums in Iran? Have we regressed that much?

The shir-o-khorshid flag, is and will be our true flag. Something that a Mullah decided by himself and was imposed on people cannot be accepted just because Khomeini wants us to.
I don't even understand how you could even argue otherwise. Whenever the Sikh Khanda symbol (☬) is put to a referendum, there was a free discussion about it, and all Persians chose to put a foreign object representing 5 swords on their national flag, then we can talk about unity and international recognition.
Would you think all germans had to respect the natzi swastika just because hitler wanted them to?.................(Rahmati).....................
