And I hope all the people who ranted and raved about the sports ministry being hell bent on getting rid of CQ and calling the rest of us stupid (among other names) for wanting to stick with the facts rather than hearsay, reevaluate their rude and abrasive behavior going forward.

There are obviously limitations within the IFF and the IR as a whole, but we really don't need to dwell in them or mention them in every other post - everyone knows what they are. We all want what's best for TM.

I'm just glad TM has a capable coach and we can finally move forward and focus on WCQ.

But more importantly, it's nice to see any organization within the IR succumb to the will of the people. Perhaps sign of better things to come.
I think I feel happier that people are actually going to stop making apocalyptic Nepal syndrome predictions for Iran from now on than CQ actually staying

Finally some good news for our TM! yeahhhhhhh. Nothing to worry about WCQs now. Bring it on KSA and the rest. Lets show some quality play for now. Just sorry for losing Captain Neko so soon. He could be useful for first round of qualifiers.

I think it is a very likely scenario that Carlos Queiroz will call up Nekounam for June's Qualifiers actually.

Javad will probably reconsider his retirement and come back to help TM if there is no suitable replacement found for the DM position.

CQ and Javad are big friends, which adds more weight to my theory.

Just my thoughts. I'm getting off-topic, let's get back on track.

Your predictions always come true, so we will see Nekounam in a team melli shirt this summer.

I hope you are right my friend! He is still very useful for our team.

Good news. I just hope that nekounam doesn't go back on his words, it'll just make him look bad, and similar to the like of Daei and Karimi who just stayed on for too long.
CQ needs to start implementing a new attacking minded team and counter this weak ultra defensive mentality he has. I'm afraid we will see omid ebrahimi replace neku, and that won't take us anywhere. We need to have Ando as our sole DM and have 2 ATMs instead

I thought the original plan was for Nekou to retire from playing for TM and become CQ's assistant. I'm sure the Iranian assistant issue has been a sticky one for the IFF because there was a lot of back and forth last summer to include that provision in the contract.

The only other possibility would be Hashemian who was supposed to come to Iran last week to have some discussions (not specified with whom). He's more offensive minded which will be a good compliment to CQ, but I don't know if the two of them will get along or if he will even consider the position.

Nekou has obviously worked with CQ and they get along. I guess we'll have to wait until all the issues are resolved first with CQ before we shift focus to the assistant position.

Just to set the record straight because certain people for some strange reason can't let go of the idea that this caveman of a sports minister somehow gives a damn about Team Melli despite the fact that he blocked the funds for the coaching staff's salaries...despite the fact that he refused to even fund the repair of the training camp...and despite the fact that several TM players have called him out by NAME for trying to tear the national team apart, here's an article from Khabar Online which should give you an idea of what caused the breakthrough.

The highlighted part: "...this time a body above both the federation and even the sports ministry has decided for the coach to stay." When they talk about a position above the sports ministry, clearly they're referring to Rohani himself whose brother had contacted CQ before the WC to interest him in a long term stay. Goodarzi's kesafat-kari as a member of the cabinet had reached a point where it was becoming a PR issue for Rohani's administration. People had been mobbing Rohani's social media accounts in the last couple weeks and begging him to step in. CQ is staying despite Goodarzi's efforts. Plain and simple.

As for Nekounam's future, I really doubt he'll come back as a player. Dejagah had already hinted at working with him despite retirement, which makes me think he'll probably become part of the coaching staff going forward.

I would love to see Javad becoming assistant to CQ

This is supposed to be a news thread and I don't want to make it into another out of control discussion, but Khabar online op-eds are just that - personal commentary and analysis based on a lot of speculation, rather than facts from official sources.

They don't provide a source in these articles, because the author and the author alone is the source of the speculation. In this case, it's quite a preposterous speculation (as if Rohani doesn't have anything better to do) so the author doesn't even have the decency to identify himself.

Just yesterday, they published another op-ed (from Aria Salehi) that suggested something completely different, that Goudarzi wants to keep CQ, but doesn't want him to act out of control:
