"S. Korea to face Canada in football friendly in Nov.
South Korea will face Canada in a football friendly match next month, the sport's national governing body said Monday.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) said South Korea will host Canada on Nov. 11. The match will be staged at Cheonan Stadium in Cheonan, some 90 kilometers south of Seoul.
This will be the first time that South Korea will go head-to-head against Canada at home. The two nations last met in February 2002 at the Gold Cup in the United States, where South Korea lost 2-1 in the third-place match.
Canada, overall, have a superior head-to-head record against South Korea with two wins, one draw and one loss.
Canada, at 103rd in the FIFA rankings, are not in the six-team final round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying stage for the North, Central American and Caribbean section.
"It's not easy to find a team for a friendly match during that time period because most nations play their World Cup qualifiers," an official from the KFA said. "Canada play European-style football, and they are good opponents for South Korea ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan."
South Korea, ranked No. 47 in the world, are scheduled to face Uzbekistan on Nov. 15 at home. Both team are in Group A of the final Asian qualifying round for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where they are also paired with Iran, Syria, China and Qatar.
South Korea have collected two wins and one draw in their first three World Cup qualifiers. They are currently second in the group, trailing Iran on goal difference."
