        Considering a 20-0 Guam; 10-0 India; 5-0 Turkemistan; 2-0 Oman So....GF 37- GA 0.

I really hope we can top our 19-0 win from Guam last time.

"We need international friendly before Iran tie: Constantine

India football head coach Stephen Constantine has pressed for an international friendly match before playing against formidable Iran in September in the 2018 football World Cup Qualification Preliminary Round Two here.

"I need more time for preparations. I need friendly games. I need my team to play a friendly before we take on Iran," he told reporters here.

India play Guam on June 16 and then take on Iran on September 8 here in Group D of the Preliminary Round Two of the qualifiers.

Constantine said his wards need games to get experience to play at international level.

"These boys need games. Last year they played twice in 12 months, so we have a lot of boys who do not have international experience. They will learn on the job and hopefully learn it quickly and try to get results so that we can go to the next stage," he said after India lost to Oman 1-2 here.

The Englishman said his team was trying to regain the lost respect in Asia.

"We are going to be a very good side. We are trying to regain our respect in Asia which we never had for the last 11 years," he said.

Constantine said India's performance against Oman was much better than the performance put up against Nepal in Round One. "We showed not only to Oman, but a lot of other teams that we are going to get better every game. This was a better performance than the game we won against Nepal ... So I think we are moving in the right direction," he said."

^ regain the lost respect ???

on a more serious note, the Guam national team has lots of players coming from the Payless Supermarket Strykers FC team.

Looks like the Indians have already given up!!!

Dreams of Russia over, Constantine plots India's long-term rise

With the dream of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup over, national coach Stephen Constantine is focusing on long-term improvement.
For India, dreams of the 2018 World Cup are already over. Finishing first in the group of five is the only way to guarantee a place in the final round of qualification.

Therefore, losing the first two of eight games -- even before playing top-seeded Iran -- means it is not going to happen. But then, Russia was always a dream. Stephen Constantine knew this even before he returned to India in January to take charge of the nation for a second time, 12 years after his first stint ended.

The new regime under the Englishman started well in March with a win over Nepal in a home-and-away knockout tie to reach the second round of qualification. That kicked off in June against Oman, regarded as the second strongest in the group. Within 35 seconds at home, Oman were ahead, and while India fought well, they lost 2-1. "The start was obviously not the one we wanted," Constantine told ESPN FC.

"Overall, though, it was very positive. We lost but we played quite well in the second half and had a good goal disallowed. It was disappointing that we didn't get anything from that game. We felt that we played well in patches. But we can play better and will play better."

India competed well against Oman, scoring a goal and having a goal disallowed in a 2-1 defeat.
It was no surprise or disgrace to lose to a settled and stable upper-middle ranking Asian team like Oman. Few among the Indian football fraternity, however, expected the team to lose 2-1 to Guam five days later.

The last time the two teams met was in 2013, when the South Asians triumphed 4-0. Something similar was expected this time. The pregame expectation, though, disregarded the flattering nature of the score line from two years ago. It also did not take into account the progress Guam had been making in the meantime and, perhaps, also that the Indian team were a young one still finding its way.

"We were not at the races. We didn't play to our potential," said 52-year-old Constantine, who has also guided the national teams of Malawi, Rwanda, Sudan and Nepal. The Englishman points out that Guam's lineup has been bolstered by stars such as AJ DeLaGarza, who plays for LA Galaxy. Also other American-based professional players with connections to the Pacific island have been recruited.

"Everyone has commented that they had 11 American-based players. Well, it's not 11, but nine," said Constantine. "The two who are based in Guam, however, are U.S. citizens and have played in pro leagues. "I don't have an issue with that as they are following FIFA's rules and Gary White [Guam's highly-rated English coach] has used them very cleverly. You do what you can to get the best team on the pitch. At the end of the day, though, they played well and we didn't."

India were shocked by Guam, which Constantine attributed to the victors' naturalization of American-based players. In Indian football, overseas experience is rarer than an empty seat on a Mumbai commuter train during rush hour. "You have the argument that if you can't find 11 players out of a population of 1.4 billion, then you should give up," said Constantine. "But that is nonsense. Nobody plays football in India. The level of youth development is negligible.

"In India, they are not doing enough at a club level and at an academy level. There is a certain football intelligence that you can get from being coached at an early age. But when you start being coached at 15 then it is like going from high school to university and you miss out college. There is something missing." Following in the footsteps of Guam and plenty of other countries, recruiting overseas players of Indian heritage is being discussed with renewed gusto in New Delhi.

"People have realised in India and thought, 'Hang on a minute, if they can do it we can do it too.' We will look at it. It is something that I tried to do in 2002 when I was here," said Constantine. "We had two or three guys who came from overseas then who weren't good enough. Now we have four or five players around the world who are good enough and they will hopefully get a green light." Or get the red tape. The Indian government does not allow dual nationality. Otherwise, stars such as Harmeet Singh, born in Oslo to Indian parents and now a Norwegian international, could have played for the Blue Tigers.

Players would have to give up their American, Norwegian or British passports to represent India. While former Newcastle United and Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra said recently he is ready to do so, it is still not that simple. "I spoke to him many years ago with a view to him coming," said Constantine. "The issue is not him giving up his passport. But that he will have to wait two years to get an Indian one. It's a long time to wait. We need to use these players now, not two years later."

So the key to the india game is to man-mark Chhetri

Indian Football Team -Dependant on Sunil Chhetri Currently, India is in a bad position at the World Cup 2018 qualifiers losing both their games. The blue tigers have about two and a half months before they play their next qualifier against the toughest opponents in the group, Iran. The game will definitely be a very tough one, despite the fact that it will be played in India as the Iranians are placed almost a 100 ranks above them and are also considered one of the best in Asian football. The game will become further difficult for the Indians, given their heavy reliance on Sunil Chhetri.
Until the whole team steps-up its game after the break, India should be ready to say goodbye to the World Cup 2018.
