What will our new playing identity be in 2018?

I am curious as to what everyone thinks our changes will be going forward. The hallmark of the last WC cycle was hard defense and taking care of the couple chances we got per game. This had mixed results since it worked against Uzbekistan/South Korea, but we couldn't finish versus Nigeria or Argentina, while we did have the chances to. We played a 4-2-3-1 variant or a 4-1-4-1.

Now if Quieroz is indeed our coach for the next four years he knows our improvements must come in attack and posession. By no means do I think he will let go of his defensive setup but he will probably work on transitioning. I'd like to see us play a counterattack game against nations more equal to our level. A possible 4-2-3-1 with two DMS and one of Gucci/Rafiee/Rahmani playing behind Azmoun. Shojaei does not have the speed for this type of attack. If we could focus our attacks to the wings when having posession, Jahanbash and Dejagah can beat any man one v one in Asia. That way Azmoun and the CAM(Gucci, Rafiee etc) could both be there to put the ball away on a cross or pass.

What do you believe the change in our play will be? I know some despise Carlos Quieroz'so defensive play and that's fine but even they know every team changes its identity somewhat each cycle.

Parking the bus was necessary in the past 3 years because CQ doesn't like offensive play and he didn't know TM yet.

Now he knows TM very well so I believe this time around he will start working on the attacking aspect, which will be added to our already great defensive talent.

So by the time of 2018, TM should be all-round great (considering that CQ's plans don't get interrupted by whatever reason)

If you watched the games vs Chile and Sweden you'd know that he had already started working on playing more open football.

Now he has 3 years to make TM a round-of-16-capable team.

Do you know what "parking the bus" actually looks like? If you did, you would not make such outrageous comments.

Ok, but do you think he will stick with the same players(Masoud, Nekounam,Heydari etc) or change? Maybe a new defending tactic. Right now, Iran plays a lot like Sunderland's park the bus style, letting the opponent have the ball and see out a 1-0 win. I think even if he does park the bus CQ will try and adopt a more narrow defensive style than we have now. If Jahanbaksh can get his form for TM together we could make a system of counterattacking like Sunderland as well(Azmoun traps a long ball and through balls it to ARJ or Dejagah running onto it. Note that in the World cup that is what Gucci tried to do but could not since the CB's he faced were nearly always 15cm taller than him.

Maybe a Chelsea style defense with smaller/quick wingers and Azmoun as target man/finisher? Or do you think he will try and get more possession of the ball and just make each defender individually brilliant defensively?

Personally, I'll be happy with any results as long as we play half as well as we did with Amir Mafia back in 2007. After the latest disgrace against Chile where we only beat those losers with two goals I had tears in my eyes and kept screaming "There was a time we came back from two goals down to tie China... Is this what we have to settle for now?? Is this the same team that destroyed Malaysia 2-0 under the guidance of THE Amir GhaleMorghi?? Have we really fallen this far?? How can I even tell people I'm Iranian after this?!?" Then I cheered myself up by adding another video to my youtube channel for GN like a normal person. Because I'm perfectly rational and not weird at all and not a troll and have no agenda. I just understand good football because PS4.

how much longer are you going to continue this nonsense? Maybe it's time to stop being so funny. There are people here who would like to have a real discussion about TM.

It doesn't seem like CQ is planning on making major changes in TM. Guys like Masoud, Heydari, and other aging players will most likely still get invited and get decent playing time. And CQ's philosophy is to play ultra defensive counter attacking football with minimal possession. It's a real shame b/c we have some very good attacking players that we might never see play to their strengths in TM. At least until CQ is around.

And in reply to Loerstani, the real outrageous comment would be to say "TM doesn't park the bus".

This is a discussion about TM's identity moving on to the future. People like you and your buddies, who always make things personal, label me as a troll, gay, idiot, etc etc. and somehow relate everything to GN and Iran's 2007 AC campaign (which is completely irrelevant) are the real trolls.

If you don't want to talk to me or respond to my comments. That's great.

You have no right to tell others if they can talk to me or not.

That's quite ironic, since you were the person who sent me a private message with ''get fucked'', after I responded in a thread talking about football. I will stop further embarrassing you by uploading screenshots.

Therefore I have the full right to expose the weak character behind clipsport.

You are pathetic to say at least.

What about the introduction of PAG/Rezaian/Ghafouri? Given the latter isnt young, 27, but significantly younger than Heydari. The real problem with Iran and CQ together is that Iran is used to always being torn apart on the counter but attacking with many numbers. CQ is West European and his understanding of the game dictates that every midfield have a destroyer, a trickster, and a distributer. I think the closest thing he saw to that was playing Ando/Shojaei/Nekounam together. The problem is that most Iranian players aren't specialized but have generally above average technique but never get more specific in their gamestyle. In order to implement the type of style you want to see, we need to find a replacement quickly for Nekounam's distribution and for a trickster.

Possible solutions might be finding a Ryan Giggs/Scholes like ball distributor somewhere in Iran to replace Nekounam. I don't watch IPL closely enough to have an idea of a younger player that can play in that capacity. If he choses it, we have enough young CAMs to replace Shojaei.
