Actually, now japan wont be playing syria in iran before the off day for pot 1 teams. So the chance of a friendly vs them is less but still possible since oman isnt too far.

The Afghan national football team has arrived in Iran following their friendly matches against Laos and Bangladesh ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.

The national team players received a warm welcome on arrival at Mashhad airport from Afghans living in Iran.
Many of the awaiting fans flew the Afghan flag in support of the team.

Afghanistan is set to face Syria in its first qualifying match on Thursday.

Abdul Ahad Khaliqyar, the Consul General of Afghanistan in Mashad was also among the Afghans who welcomed the team.

We are here to support our national football team against Syria in its first match, he said.

Numerous female fans meanwhile queued to have their pictures taken with members of the team.

Mansur Faqiryar, the national team goalkeeper has said that he is very excited about the support the team has already received.

"I wasn't prepared that in Iran our people would welcome us like this. I am very happy that we are receiving such as support. It gives us more motivation to play a good match against Syria," he said.

Afghanistan to will face Japan, Syria, Singapore and Cambodia in their 2018 World Cup qualifying matches in group E.

Afghanistan will take on Syria in the first 2018 World Cup qualifying match on Thursday

After playing two friendly matches against Laos and Bangladesh last week, Afghanistan national football team arrived in Iran on Thursday for World Cup qualifying matches.

The team received a rousing reception from football fans at Mashhad airport. Many Afghan refugee families live in Mashhad.

Abdul Ahad Khaliqyar, the Consul General of Afghanistan in Mashhad, was also present at the airport to welcome the team.

Afghanistan, which is in group E, will take on Syria in the first qualifying match on Thursday at Samen Stadium in Mashhad, which is situated near Iran-Afghanistan border.

On Saturday, players took to field for training session under the watchful eyes of newly-appointed national coach Slaven Skeledzic.

Due to security concerns, Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) had earlier decided against hosting the 2018 World Cup qualifying matches in Afghanistan

The venue was later shifted to Iran, after AFF raised the concerns with the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

This is the first time Afghanistan will play in the World Cup qualifiers. The first match against Syria will be followed by other matches against Japan, Singapore and Cambodia respectively.

The team is riding high on confidence after impressive performance in two friendly matches against Laos and Bangladesh last week.

Afghanistan convincingly defeated Laos 2-0 and tied the match 1-1 against Bangladesh.

The World Cup qualification process will decide 31 of the 32 teams that will play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Hosts Russia have already qualified.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place between June 14 and July 15 2018 in Russia. The final will be played in Moscow at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Tickets for the Afghanistan-Syria game are apparently costing between 10,000 to 50,000 toman. It's a little unjust and it's just a report, but if true it could be mean 150-250k from ticket sales for just one game.

But at the same time I'm not sure if 35k afghans can afford those prices.
