The main question is do they want to keep him for the duration of his contract. Pretty much 90% of Iranians in these arab leagues get released from their contracts. shouldn't get to kushy.

Disappointing. I guess as long as he delivers for TM, it's fine, whatever. but playing in qatar would destroy his football, and the moment we have a young promising player, who is willing to develop and go to europe, dejagah should be benched.

Come on buddy I love Dejagah but he is good like every other to every third game for TM, how can u call that the most influental footballer on the pitch for TM?? Is that even comparable to how influential Karimi was?

After reading this thread I can safely say that I think Dejagah is one of the most overrated player to have ever played for TM.

People saying he is the "most influential player ever" or "best player ever for Iran" probably started following Iranian football in 2010 or something. His form with Wolfsburg/Beginning of Fulham would make him maybe a top 10 in TM history but I don't see him as more than that. His club record makes him a decent player but he has done nothing really notable for TM.

I'm disappointed as I expected him to return to the Bundesliga this summer.

How about looking at it from a different perspective though? Maybe he prefers to focus on TM AND making more money as opposed to his club career? Qatar is a much warmer country than England/Germany. I'm also not 100% sure but I do recall someone saying that he was not playing every game for his team. This is a guy who's had injury problems before and is now 29. Maybe its better for TM to have him take it easy a little bit and avoid injury? Not to mention he's closer to Iran.

I would prefer TM's best players to be playing in the best European leagues but maybe this is a better alternative to keep Dejagah healthy and prolong his TM Career? Just a thought.

To claim a player has been the best player in Iranian history (such a wild claim to make) they at least have to be the kind of player that has the ability to change the outcome of a TM game single handedly by themselves. How many times has Dejagah done that?

Players like, Abedzadeh, Ali Karimi, Ali Daei, Mahdavikia, Bagheri, Azizi and etc. have done that. Ali Karimi's hattrick against Korea alone, puts him above dejagah, let alone all the other times he single handedly saved us.

Alone from our current team: Ando and Nekounam are easily ahead of him imo, I'd say that even Masoud has contributed equally if not more to TM and also had a quite successful club career in Europe. Dejagah would maybe be a top 15. Had he accepted the call-up before 2010 and helped us qualify to South Africa, I would've considered him among the most influential players. But to this day I don't recall anything notable from him for Iran.

I didn't said, that he is THE best player. I said he is one of the best players.

But hey he single handedly made the qatar game, by his debut game.

Exactly, even Ando and Nekounam are ahead of him. Dejagah is a better footballer than Gucci, but even Gucci has been more influential in TM than Dejagah has. Dejagah has had way too few good games for TM to ever be called one of the most influential TM player. An influential player doesn't disappear every other game. Except for his bad stamina, there is also another reason why CQ so many times choose to bring him off so early, some games he is no where to be found.

Dejagah has had only 1 stellar game, and that was his debut

That is your perspective, in my opinion he has been the best footballer on the pitch for TM in just about every match he is fielded!! His work rate, his constant running from defense to offense, making runs down the flanks, holding the ball up, make space for others on the field, his positioning, his stealing the ball, etc. There are lots of ways one can be influential in the match. You want to believe he is not that good, be my guest.

it is not all up to him anyways. i dont see too many european clubs lined up making offers and the way he is playing in qatar it will not happen anytime soon. he has been quite a bad purchase for the qataris if you ask me,they have paid him so much money and he has not delivered at all. as far as tm goes he is a beast but best ever is far fetched and undeserved with only so many games under his belt and no special stat to his name.

another reason he might not even like to play in europe is injuries, it is much more demanding physically to play in europe in fact not too many iranian have the physic to last long in that type of environment if anyone had it was dejagah. mahdavikia was an exception. and money is of no concern to him once you have a couple of millions under your belt you dont even need to work yourself to make money and you can easily make a decent living just to give you an idea the simplest and stupidest thing one can do is deposit money in a savings account, if he were to deposit 10 million at a measly 2% rate of the savings account that is 200k per year, more than enough to feed his family.

I am dissapointed with him. I would not have been so mad if he moved when he was 30, or 31. But at his age its a shame. And his form is definitely down. Watch him in world cup, and watch him now, its truly sad.
