These aren't comparable situations. The only thing which is similar are the ages of Daei and Jalal Hosseini.
Daei had been a statue for 3-4 years and was playing 90 minutes a game, unsubstituted, without any movement or team contribution. Hashemian was pushed out to the wing to accommodate him. The 23-year-old IPL player of the year wasn't even invited to the 2006 world cup. It was like having 10 players on the pitch for that period, however much Daei had been great for Iran in the late 90s.
The difference is that there were a number of options which were better than Daei for TM at the time. It wasn't an age issue.
Daei's performances for WC06 campaign were negligible. Jalal Hosseini still performs very well for Iran, he is a rock solid centre back. His performances have been really consistent and great for this campaign. As someone who dislikes Persepolis, it takes some respect for him that I had him down as Iran's stalwart for this world cup, just due to his consistency and calmness under pressure.
I understand the potential logic in building a new team for the future, I just wish CQ would have followed the logic he had with Azmoun in 2014 and waited until after the WC. Centre back is arguably a more important position for experience than forward. And once again, I must emphasise that I have faith in CQ. The positives of every campaign he has lead us on has always significantly outweighed the negatives.

The most disgusting part about all this is the insults and false allegations. FFS some of these guys are well in their 30's. In any other country they would be liable for damages in court.

Just the way they often refer to CQ as "Moozambiki" would have been enough to land them in court in most Western countries. Karimi called him "dallale moozambiki" just a few weeks back in an instagram post that got thousands of likes!

What's amazing is one of their main lines of attack has been the bs accusation that he has a "chauvinistic" attitude against Iranians, yet their favorite insult against him is to make fun of the fact that he was born in Africa!

I know Ali Karimi still has a lot of fans inside and outside Iran but man I can't stand this clown anymore. I am at the point that I despise this man now. He needs to go see a shrink.

As far as I am concerned, his statements and actions in recent years prove how selfish and psychotic he is. Any good will he garnered as a player is completely gone now in my opinion.

The point was that the young players were not given a chance to develop in international games. Look at Sardar and how much trust CQ has put in him.

Borhani was no where near as good as Sardar, but at 22 he was a talented, pacy prospect. I would argue that keeping him on the bench for so many games when Daei was playing 90 minutes is not something that CQ would do. Nor would pushing Hashemian into no man's land to fit Daei in as the central striker. I don't think Branko would have put trust in the likes of Taremi.

Giving Daei 90 minutes every game when he was increasingly immobile and wasteful came at the expense of young forwards who were not given the international experience akin to the likes of even Taremi, Azmoun, even Torabi today. Azmoun's confidence in the champions league 2 years ago I feel was borne out of his amazing run of form (and trust CQ gave) for Iran.

If Kazemian, Mobali, Borhani (players who came on the scene with an abundance of pomp and excitement, more than Taremi for example) were given the trust that CQ gives his young players, who knows what might have happened in their subsequent development. All of them ended up as disappointments.

Ali Karimi left the TM right before the Asian Cup. So around end of 2014 - January 2015.

Also don't forget he was the #9 and one of the key players in the U21 German national team that won the European championship and that included players like: Khedira, Ozil, Neur, Boateng, Hummels, Howedes, etc. Dejagah is the guy who put Edin Dzeko on the map at Wolfsburg when he was absolutely killing it for them on the right wing back then. His career path became a little turbulent after his time at Fulhum. But let's also not forget he was Fulham's best player and almost single handily saved that shitty team from relegation. If he had joined a more stable English Premier League team his career could have turned out to be very different. Very well said. People don't realize how good of a player Ashkan is. He is the product of the best youth soccer system in the world. His mental aspect of playing soccer is unmatched by anyone ever to wear the TM jersey.
