not only should they lose the rights, but they should also be given a 4-year ban which would exclude them from the next WC. Ofcourse in the case of qatar, they probably won't qualify anyways.

Mexico was banned from 1990 WC after using over age players in the 1989 World Youth Championship qualifying round.

The Chileans were banned from 2 WC's when Chile goalkeeper Roberto Rojas staged an event to get Brazil booted out. A flare was thrown onto the field, and the Chilean GK threw himself on the pitch and cut his head open using a razor he had hidden in his gloves. The whole Chilean team walked off refusing to return claiming "unsafe" conditions. The GK's action was caught on tape and Chile was eliminated from the 1st WC and banned from the next one.

at least no one can blame that team for not having guts. Taking a razor to the game and cutting yourself open or showing body parts to a 100,000 Brazilian fans is no joke

talk about poor timing. They spent up to $30M on the movie, and over the weekend, it made $607 dollars in the US. So across 10 theaters, they managed to get a total of 50 people to see the movie.

"FIFA’s multimillion-dollar movie “United Passions” crashed hard at the U.S. box office over the weekend, bringing in a reported $607 over two days.

The film’s budget was estimated to range between $25 million to $32 million, and the movie, which tells the history of FIFA, was mostly bankrolled by the soccer group, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "

^^^ It was probably just one more way to funnel funds away from the FIFA coffers and into some other pockets.

FIFA ExCo Member Says Morocco Actually Won 2010 World Cup Vote

                        http://screamer.deadspin.com/fifa-ex...ium=socialflow

Officially, South Africa won the vote to host the 2010 World Cup 14-10. But according to allegations from a FIFA executive committee member, after conferring with his fellow voters, the tally was actually 13-11 in favor of Morocco, and some major bribes and shady vote-counting led FIFA to announce the fraudulent result.

The claim was made in 2010 by Ismail Bhamjee, an ExCo member from Botswana, and captured on tape by reporters of The Sunday Times posing as lobbyists. The Times said it did not release the tape at the time because of legal reasons, but turned it over to FIFA—and that FIFA did nothing about it. This weekend the Times published excerpts of that tape (behind its paywall).

“After talking with everybody ... Whose votes went where? We’re all colleagues, you know. And then we found out that actually Morocco won by two votes,” Bhamjee said.

He admitted it was possible some Exco members might have lied about their votes. But he went on to list those he understood had supported Morocco and seemed convinced the North Africans had won. He speculated that the ballot papers, which were tallied behind closed doors, could have been deliberately miscounted. He added: “Please, this is very secret.”

The controversial 2010 vote is the same one that American executive Chuck Blazer admitted taking bribes to swing, and for which documents show that FIFA No. 2 Jerome Valcke was aware of a $10 million payment from South Africa to corrupt voters. This weekend, disgraced FIFA president Sepp Blatter was named in connection with that payout.

But don’t think that Morocco were overwhelmed innocents here. On the tapes recorded by The Sunday Times, other voters speak of being offered and accepting bribes by Morocco. Jack Warner, the ratshit crazy CONCACAF executive, allegedly accepted a $1M bribe from Morocco but double-crossed them when South Africa’s bribe was larger.

These are the kinds of stories that are going to seep out now, since formal investigations have started, indicted executives are looking to cut plea deals, and the bigger powerbrokers are no longer in positions to punish disloyalty. And anyway, it’s unlikely that there has been a World Cup in your lifetime that has been corruption-free. But, man, those photos of Nelson Mandela celebrating the 2010 Cup vote are extra heartbreaking now.

The bid process for the 2026 WC has been suspended...

FIFA puts 2026 World Cup bidding on hold

Potential bidders include Canada, U.S., Mexico, European countries

                                The Associated Press
                                Jun 10, 2015 4:59 AM ET

On another day of turmoil for FIFA and the World Cup, the bidding contest for the 2026 tournament was put on hold. FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said Wednesday it would be "nonsense" to begin the next bidding process on schedule this week amid the American investigation into soccer corruption.

Valcke, speaking at a news conference in Russia hosted by organizers of the 2018 tournament, also defended his role in a $10 million US bribery scandal linked to the 2010 World Cup. "I will answer all the questions. I have nothing to hide," Valcke said.

The storm unleashed by separate U.S. and Swiss federal investigations has already further sullied FIFA's image and led to the resignation of its president, Sepp Blatter. The favourite to succeed Blatter, former protege turned adversary Michel Platini, criticized soccer's governing body later Wednesday while also welcoming a delay in 2026 business.

"Today there is no leadership at FIFA so it's normal that it's been suspended," the UEFA president and former France great said at a news conference in Paris. The United States is among the expected contenders in the May 2017 vote.

FIFA also said Wednesday its executive committee will meet to choose an election date in a special session next month — possibly July 24 in St. Petersburg, where Swiss and American investigators won't get the chance to ask questions. The 209 FIFA member federations will vote for a new president four months after a deadline set for would-be candidates to apply.

Blatter's prolonged departure is "not doing himself and the whole of football a favour," said Wolfgang Niersbach of Germany, who is on the executive committee.

FIFA has been in crisis since the U.S. Department of Justice indicted 14 people on corruption charges ahead of Blatter's re-election at the FIFA congress two weeks ago. Seven of them were arrested in Zurich and face extradition.

Although Blatter was not named in a 164-page indictment — which alleged $150 million in bribes linked mostly to non-FIFA tournaments in North and South America — officials familiar with the case have said he is a target.

Valcke, however, has been scrutinized for his direct links to payments totalling $10 million from FIFA accounts which the U.S. Department of Justice says were bribes to FIFA executive committee members to vote for South Africa as 2010 World Cup host.

In an impassioned voice Wednesday, Valcke repeated previous FIFA statements on his behalf: That he merely signed off on money transfers agreed to by South African officials from their World Cup funds, and authorized by the then-chairman of the FIFA finance panel, Julio Grondona of Argentina, who died last year.

"I'm signing all the contracts of FIFA," said Valcke, who began his job several months before the money transfers in early 2008 to accounts controlled by disgraced former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner.

Valcke insisted that the alleged bribe money did not belong to FIFA and questioned why he was targeted by international media. "You have decided that after Blatter, my head is to be cut. Fine," said the former television journalist from France. "But don't say it is because of this $10 million."

Valcke and Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko, who is also a FIFA executive committee member, repeated that the 2018 hosting victory was won clean.

The Swiss attorney general's office is using a report by former FIFA ethics prosecutor Michael Garcia. His investigation team was denied key evidence because Russian bid officials did not provide an archive of emails, and also used computers which were leased and later destroyed.

Both Russia and Qatar, which was awarded the 2022 World Cup, risk losing their hosting rights if evidence of wrongdoing emerges.
