One thing other coaches should learn from Mansourian

We all love CQ and no one doubts or questions his coaching ability, but if there was one thing that I always thought CQ could improve or change was his cool and calmness during the game specially when a referee makes a mistake. We all have to agree that referees make mistakes and it is part of the game and it could happen to any team. Sometimes we have benefit from it and most of the times we have gotten hurt by their decisions.

One thing that I truly admired from watching Mansourian yesterday was his calm and coolness during and after the game. You could see his positive effect on his players as well. They never complained or got stressed because of a bad refereeing, and even when the referee asked for 8 additional minutes, no one complained and the players kept their cool and focused on their game by short passing with each other and getting fouls in dangerous areas.

CQ was asked to leave when we played against SK in Tehran and he missed the game against Uzbekistan and Qatar and then complained about Williams after Bahrain game and it didn't do us any favor when we played Iraq.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions wether you agree or not.

Mansourian and Steve Kerr have similarities in this department. If you watch NBA you know what I am talking about. Quiet power projection is a technique/quality which comes with personality.

One thing other coaches should learn from Mansourian

Carlos Queiroz has his Portugese temperament and that brings some heavy emotions and so forth.

But I fully agree with what you say.

Still, it's extremely difficult to stay calm when you face incompetent, unprofessional and horrible AFC referees. I would have complained as well.

I know we all get frustrated but what do we gain by getting angry at the referee? When the players see that their coach is getting mad at the referee, they automatically start acting the same way. Remember players look up to their coaches so their behavior automatically affects them as well. Now when the players start acting that way, they can no longer focus on their game plan and it will end up hurting the team.

That's what mansourian has always been known for. Even as a player he was mr. fair play. I hope he coaches in europe one day and gain more experience and knowledge. He might win the Asian coach of the year

I think there is a typo in the thread title, it should be the MANY things our coaches should learn from mansourian

This guy is way ahead other iranian coaches.....

            - he doesn't let him or his team be involved with any hashieh whatsoever. I guarantee that if Pouraliganji was looking to leave SS or Persepolis it would have been made much more dramatic.

            - he plays modern/beautiful football and gets good results consistently, even when facing adversity. The only iranian coach that I feel can somewhat handle mental battles.

            - like CQ, he has the utmost amount of respect from his players....when you have an entire squad buying into a coach's system and goals you know he's gotta be doing something right as it's not something you see everyday.

            the list goes on.....

I think he is the one iranian coach I would love to see coach TM one day and I'm very confident he will indeed get that opportunity at some point in his coaching career.

every coach has his own style and personality, some are calmer some are more animated.

Mansourian's technique seems to work for him. all the best to him for the rest of the tournament.

With Mansourian, it's not so much a coaching technique as it's his gentle and calm character. Some of the younger guys may not know he was actually involved in Ali Karimi's first public controversy when AK8 was a young guy playing for Fat'h club and on the verge of joining Perspolis.

During a Ramezan indoor tournament (around 1997) Fat'h and Esteghlal met in the final in a match that marked the beginning of Karimi making a name for himself among Iranian fans. His team was supposed to lose easily but he single-handedly gave them the victory. Sure enough, he got a lot of abuse from the stands and he reacted with a few gestures and words of his own which made the fans even more furious and many actually tried to attack him at the end. Mansourian who was pretty young himself and already a popular Esteghlal player could have reacted in the same emotional manner as the fans (see Hanif and the recent derby) but he ran over to Karimi's side and personally shielded him and helped him leave the arena without getting hurt.

He's just an all around great guy and it turns out, a great coach as well. Definitely can't wait to see him get his turn in Team Melli.

CQ bring passion to the team, how about the passion to win games and play as a team. Without that passion that rubs off CQ do you think the team would have come back in the WCQ and won the last 3 do or die games?

Absolutely CQ is very passionate and we all love for him that, however you could be passionate about your team and also keep your temper under control in case a referee made a wrong decision. That's all I'm suggesting.

i dont mind(and actually personally prefer) CQ's passionate demeanor on the sidelines to rally his troops against adversity and his clever head-games to fuck with opposing coaches and referees, but his problem is that he gets way too carried away with it Occasionally and looses the plot by over-doing it..!
such as the Iraq game after pouladi's red card..!! he went way over-board, as if the game has already been lost and gone..! and in process made our boys further nervous, and further deplete their confidence to calmly manage an already-shaken, down a goal, inferior-opponent with a toothless offense ..!

for our mighty, unpeneterable defense to give-up 3 freaking tokhmy goals away to such a shitt opponent was definitely more about players being nervous- wreck than just because of going a man-down...!
just go back and look at a clearly panicked Haj Safi tripping our own keeper on the first goal and the PK we gave away during the game..!!that whole play screamed anxiety, tension, agitation, stress & visible panic, most of which was sadly brought on by cq's meltdown on the sidelines...!!

Agree he needs to keep his composure.

On a side note, I met couple of Portuguese yesterday and was chatting about CQ. They didn't like him at all specially for his defensive tactics against Spain in 2010 WC.

hmmm.... Its a very philisophical and tricky question whether I agree with you or not. In principle I have refrains agreeing with you over some issues, and over other issues I will agree instantly. However, as a whole its too difficult to say, I might as well disagree or agree with you in this very minute and then might change my mind during the course of the day.
Thats why I cannot answer this questions soo directly. Its soo tough and you are being merciless asking such questions immediately after my lunch. But to make it short actually, and very tentatively I might agree with you on some parts of your post, but disagree on the other parts. Hope it helps.

That was even nice said. He was of Portugal's most hated coaches, maybe the wc 2014 performance changed their minds
