One thing other coaches should learn from Mansourian

We all love CQ and no one doubts or questions his coaching ability, but if there was one thing that I always thought CQ could improve or change was his cool and calmness during the game specially when a referee makes a mistake. We all have to agree that referees make mistakes and it is part of the game and it could happen to any team. Sometimes we have benefit from it and most of the times we have gotten hurt by their decisions.

One thing that I truly admired from watching Mansourian yesterday was his calm and coolness during and after the game. You could see his positive effect on his players as well. They never complained or got stressed because of a bad refereeing, and even when the referee asked for 8 additional minutes, no one complained and the players kept their cool and focused on their game by short passing with each other and getting fouls in dangerous areas.

CQ was asked to leave when we played against SK in Tehran and he missed the game against Uzbekistan and Qatar and then complained about Williams after Bahrain game and it didn't do us any favor when we played Iraq.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions wether you agree or not.

Diego Simeone is like CQ on steroids every game every week. Many think that's his real strength and part of the passion and the fighting spirit that allowed Atletico to out class Madrid and Barca and win the title. It even almost got them the CL title if it was not for an extra time goal.

Bottom line every team is different, so is every coach and so every coach motivates his team differently. One helps the players keep their cool and their heads straight, the other pumps them up and pulls that little bit extra out of them. At the end of the day the right coach, needs to be heading the right team, motivating them the right way.

Maurino is without a doubt one of the best and most successful coaches out there but if you put him in charge of Barca it just wont work. Simeone is hands down one of the coaches I rate highly but put him in charge of Arsenal and it just wont work. Same goes for putting van Gaal in charge of Inter Milan.

Different teams, different coaches, different styles. One does not work better than the other, they are just different and it just needs to be the right fit.

I have to say it though that Ali Mansourian can get a bit hot under the collar as well. I like it though. In my opinion a firy coaches personality gets translated and transferred to the team.

i just reallly hope the Asian & Iranian football culture and politics doesn't chew him up and make him bitter like all the other old timers.

On a side note, I met couple of Portuguese yesterday and was chatting about CQ. They didn't like him at all specially for his defensive tactics against Spain in 2010 WC.

Personally dont recall a more Dominant Possession-Based Team performance at world cup ever than the Spain of 2010.
Spain itself werent high-scoring per-say, but their opponents couldnt take the ball away from them long-enough to attempt any serious attack on their goal mouth either and even when they did they'd be facing a wall of red-shirts in front of them as Spanish team also defended with big numbers as soon as they lost possession...!! That Spain team also boasted one of the most talented WC squads Ever...! many from one of the Best FCB teams ever and few more from the always mighty Real Madrid and nearly ALL @ Peak of their careers..!
From my recollections, CQ's Portugal presented simply The Most Serious or perhaps even The Only Serious challenge to Spain's dominant Championship run..!! even the sole goal they conceded was marginally from offside position..!!?

Portugal team simply lacked the squad quality necessary to go mano-a-mano with Spain and had they attempted such a foolish tactics as CR7 used to prescribed, they woulda been easily raped ..!!

hmmm.... Its a very philisophical and tricky question whether I agree with you or not. In principle I have refrains agreeing with you over some issues, and over other issues I will agree instantly. However, as a whole its too difficult to say, I might as well disagree or agree with you in this very minute and then might change my mind during the course of the day.
Thats why I cannot answer this questions soo directly. Its soo tough and you are being merciless asking such questions immediately after my lunch. But to make it short actually, and very tentatively I might agree with you on some parts of your post, but disagree on the other parts. Hope it helps.

These thoughts specially the middle part and the upper lower part of your post were (nearly) spot on!

while i understand where u r coming from, we cant ignore the psychological games and the pressure one can put on the referees to push the referee for small decisions and tilt him slightly towards urself.

such pressures sometimes results in the opponent player getting a 2nd yellow card, an offside call can be changed etc...

while no coach should not go over board, i think a coach should play mind games and play psychological games specially since we never have a strong lobby in the AFC or FIFA and if we just have quiet and obediet coaches/players, noone is going to appreciate it

With Mansourian, it's not so much a coaching technique as it's his gentle and calm character. Some of the younger guys may not know he was actually involved in Ali Karimi's first public controversy when AK8 was a young guy playing for Fat'h club and on the verge of joining Perspolis.
During a Ramezan indoor tournament (around 1997) Fat'h and Esteghlal met in the final in a match that marked the beginning of Karimi making a name for himself among Iranian fans. His team was supposed to lose easily but he single-handedly gave them the victory. Sure enough, he got a lot of abuse from the stands and he reacted with a few gestures and words of his own which made the fans even more furious and many actually tried to attack him at the end. Mansourian who was pretty young himself and already a popular Esteghlal player could have reacted in the same emotional manner as the fans (see Hanif and the recent derby) but he ran over to Karimi's side and personally shielded him and helped him leave the arena without getting hurt.
He's just an all around great guy and it turns out, a great coach as well. Definitely can't wait to see him get his turn in Team Melli.

further more, before fath and SS met in that final, karimi had already negotiated with SS and there was an agreement that he would join SS after the final but the way SS fans treated him in the final when their team lost to fath disappointed karimi and he decided not to join SS anymore. on the other hand, sattar hamedani and hadi tabatabaei were supposed to join perspolis but came to esteghlal instead
