TM list for the matches against Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan

We can't all suddenly switch to a U25 team and expect to improve.

The squad CQ has called up especially is much much younger than usual, with only few experienced and older players in all positions like Hosseini, Heydari, Ando, Haddadifar, Masoud

No national team is going to pop up with 11 young players even in friendlies, be it against meaningless opponents. We have to mix it up, the transition has to be progressive

And whether people like it or not, Heydari and Haddadifar are experienced players which CQ knows he can rely on and this is the reason they are called up. CQ won't rely and have too much expectations of a 18 year old 4th Spanish division player and will use young players like Saeid without putting pressure on them, while playing them alongside more experienced guys like Haddadifar and Shojaei.

I'm just hoping CQ's calling up a lot of these "more experienced" (read older) players as back-ups to younger options. That he's going to put up a younger squad against Uzbekistan and if some of these new players have a total melt-down or something (or get injured), he still has experienced options on the roster for our official game.

I think he is handling the transmission very well

A TM call-up and playing in official matches can be a HUGE confidence boost for any player. Just look at Amiri's improvement since the Asian Cup. Or look at PAG's career taking off after just a few TM games.

Why are we taking that opportunity away from younger players and giving it to people who are not only at the end of their careers, but have already had that opportunity in TM and didn't shine?
What younger players are being robbed of an opportunity in favor of 30+ year olds?you can't just invite an entire u23 squad and no experienced players....

Ezzatolahi is very young and ebrahimi is middle age with two experienced CMs in haddadifar and ando. I'd say that's a very reasonable CM core.

For RB's we have an experienced heydari and two up and coming middle age players in ghafouri and a young rezaeian. Torabi also might be tested as a RB, we all know CQ likes to play with people's positions. The only young RB is argue could've been here too is lotfi of naft but I wouldn't say it's a big deal.

We actually also got younger in the striker category....taremi 23, sharifi 22 replacing ansarifard who is 25.

CB's we have kannani and PAG, both under 23 years old.

That all being said, I don't know how one can think that younger players aren't being given an opportunity when this is by far the youngest and most experimental squad we have seen in CQs 4 years in Iran. This was actually very encouraging to see and shows that he will indeed be making the much anticipated generation switch by introducing some younger players.

They don't really have to be U-23 GA jaan. 27 & 28 year olds (like Ebrahimi) are just fine for the next world cup. But Heydari IMHO is a bit old when we have options like Alishah. Or can't we use these easier games to develop younger players like Ahmadzadeh, Lotfi, Karimi, Sharifat, etc.?

We don't need to play a rigid 4-2-3-1 formation against Turkmenistan where you absolutely need your two defensive midfielders or one forward and you have all the younger guys fighting for the same positions.

The formations can be tweaked a bit IMHO as to maximize the exposure of the younger players to some international matches and playing along side the more experienced players. Hell, we can play 4-3-3- against teams like Turkmenistan and try so many of our younger talented forwards.

Ultimately, we have to face the fact that both Ando and Hadadifar are unlikely to have a role in 2018. Are you telling me that we're stuck with 18/19 year old Ezi with 0 caps and Ebrahimi and no other options?

Carlos chose 2 experienced ones, Ando and Haddadifar, 2 younger ones with Ebrahimi and Ezzatollahi. We will need the older and more composed players to lead the way especially in the WCQ where every point is crucial and fielding only younger inexperienced players could very well result in chaos, even against minnows.

Otherwise in these central positions, on the road to Russia we will most likely see young dudes like Cheshmi, Ali Karimi, Nourollahi, Abdollahzadeh, Kamyabinia etc... instead of Ezzatollahi or Haddadifar.

Same system with the RBs, one experienced player like Heydari, one on his peak; Ghafouri, lastly a young and inexperienced Torabi

I'm sorry but again I don't see any sense in what you are saying bi honar jaan.

Heydari was irans best RB/RM from 2011 through 2013-14. He will do a great job of mentoring guys like Torabi, Milad Mohammadi, Ghafouri, and Rezaeian. If you look at every position on the field, each position has at least one very experienced player in that position which is exactly what a balanced team needs. That being said, Heydari's inclusion isn't pointless. All those guys had an opportunity to show what they had for 6-7 training sessions and CQ got a very good up close look at them. He chose Torabi, Mohammadi, Rezaeian, and Ghafouri in the RB/RM category....4 very solid options with a good mentor in Heydari for them.

I don't think changing the system makes much sense either. A 4-2-3-1 isn't a highly defensive formation but rather a balanced one. You theoretically have 6 defensive minded players and 4 attacking minded players....but when looking at our DMs like ebrahimi, ando, haddadifar, PAG etc. they can all attack as well. So just because we are playing a weaker opposition doesn't mean we should try to go all out in attack when we probably won't do that against other opposition. These matches are vital to preparing for bigger opponents so what would be the point of doing something counter productive and use a formation and tactic we will likely never see?

My biggest problem with your post is how can you put ando and haddadifar in the same category? Yes, it will be too late for haddadifar.....but you really think ando will run out of gas by then? CQ didn't make him our next captain for no reason. He will be there (should we qualify) and he will again be one of our best players, I guarantee you that. Ando has been aging gracefully to say the least, he has been great for TS since joining them, arguably their best player. also IMO he was one of our best players in the AC.....look at this thread I made a few years back:

                http://www.persianfootball.com/forum...ent&highlight=

Now notice how azmouns goal against Qatar started out almost identically to the same way KB's goal against Uzbekistan was and Reza's against SK. Ando stole the ball under pressure and was able to place the ball exactly where it needed to be in order for someone to make a play. 99 out of 100 midfielders in Iran are not capable of that.....otherwise we would see such things more often in our football and ando wouldn't be as special as he is.

As for ezzatolahi and ebrahimi, again I think comparing the two is silly. Ebrahimi has tons of ACL experience, a decent amount of TM experience, and an Asian cup under his belt while ezzatolahi is just being tested out at the ripe young age of 18 right now. CQ isn't just going to throw him in as a replacement....it's camps like these that give him he opportunity to ease into the team. I doubt CQ will make him a consistent call up until he starts playing in their senior team seeing how he didn't make any acceptions for azmoun when he was in Rubin.

EDIT: also one last thing i want to add, in 2011 none of us heard of guys like JB, Montazeri who wasnt in the core of TM at all and barely being called up, and Pooladi was still played as a CM. That being said a LOT can be changed.....a player that is currently playing as a CB can suddenly be turned into a great DM (PAG hint hint), a new talent could emerge, and a guy in and out could step his game up. so a lot could change.....its far too soon to be critical of these call ups in terms of thinking about 2018. Its best to go with who will get you to Russia rather than thinking of age and whatnot.

I hope you guys are right and both of these guys will get some serious playing time in these two games and we'll gradually start seeing other players have a crack at it, because there's a BIG difference IMHO between being included in the roster and actually gaining experience playing in a certain position in TM.

Don't forget Ebrahimi has already been on the TM roster 10-12 times - he has barely played a game and half (total playing time). And as much as I like Ezzi, he's really young and completely unproven at this [age] level.

On that note, I think it's unlikely that CQ will start either one of them, particularly in the friendly against Uzbekistan. And unless we can give playing time to these younger guys, we just keep kicking the can down the road and end up in this same situation where we have to replace an older/retiring/injured player with another older player, because no one else even has some minimal level of experience for that post.

This is of course where I hope I'm wrong and we'll get to see some of our younger players given a serious chance to shine in these two games, rather than just watching from the bench.

Don't be impatient. Step by step the old guard will be replaced. No need to throw 11 rookies in right away.

You need to trust Iranian football to produce players.

South Korea just published their forward list and besides Son Heung Min the rest play in relegation K league/or second division Japan. They are having trouble weaning SK off of Lee Dong Gook. We need to find new defensive and midfield talents and Im sure we can find them just fine.
