FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup: SPAIN vs IRAN (Friday July 10)

I know these sports are less popular than association football. But as YeCheesi explained, most countries in the world dream of being in the top of at least one sport. Iran is on the top of multiple sports. Sure, they are not as popular as the football we all know.

But I have a question. Apart from football, what else is more popular on global level than sports such as volleyball / wrestling?

Tennis, Basketball, Formula one, cycling, track & fields.

Having an iranian in semi-final of Wimbledon has much more impact for Iran globally than X world champions titles in futsal/beach soccer. My point of view is maybe biaised but if I wasn't on this forum, I would have no idea about beachsoccer/futsal/volleyball competition occuring and iran good performance..

Sure, it is better than nothing to do good in these sports, specially for the olympics. And sure, football is the direct path for Iran to grow a positive image and impact in the sports world but our dumb players, agents, coaches, clubs and federations don't want it.

It would be so awesome if we had a top 5-10 tennis player in the world like Nadal, Djokovic, Federer.

I was at Bahrami exhibition during french open in 2012 and 2013. In 2012, the scoreboard showed Iran flag next to his name. In 2013, it was the french flag next to his name.
True once he said Iran (IRI) tried to prevent him to play tennis when he was younger.

Same with Aravane Rezaie who I believe played for Iran at youth level but now plays for France. Her father and self were heavily critiscized for being pro Ahmadinejad during interviews with the media.

You are 100% right on what you say.

And unfortunately our football will not improve for another 30 years.

However, I do think that we will improve a lot in many other sports, including basketball, volleyball, and even sports such as tennis and cycling.

I believe this because unlike football, these other sports are more about personal talent (and less political bs involved).

Iran's new generation has a crazy amount of talent. Adding the fact that these young Iranians are not allowed to party and have fun in the Islamic Republic, they are instead inclined to move towards sport in order to release their daily stress.

40 years ago we were nowhere in sports. Now we are continuously witnessing the rise of Iranians in various sports.

You just have to wait a little longer for formula 1, tennis, etc. But you will soon see Iranians excel at those sports too.

She and her father killed her career by publicly supporting Ahmadinejad in the French and international media. She actually stepped away from Tennis but reports indicate she wants to make a comeback.
