    AZ leek donderdagavond al heel hard op weg naar de groepsfase van de Europa League, toen het binnen een mum van tijd met 0-2 voor stond tegen Astra Giurgiu. Bij rust stonden de Alkmaarders echter met 3-2 achter en in de tweede helft bleek er geen verandering in de score doorgevoerd te kunnen worden. AZ hield zodoende toch een nare nasmaak aan het duel in Roemenië over.Zondag treft de ploeg van Van den Brom Willem II, donderdag komt vervolgens Astra op bezoek en hierna wacht de thuiswedstrijd tegen promovendus Roda JC Kerkrade. De doelstelling voor deze reeks is duidelijk: “Dat moeten, met de nadruk op moeten, zes punten zijn én plaatsing voor de poulefase van de Europa League. Zo kunnen we de teleurstelling van donderdag op een snelle en hopelijk goede manier verwerken”, zegt Van den Brom op de website van AZ.Van den Brom kan tegen Willem II nog geen beroep doen op Rajko Brezancic, die nog niet over het juiste pasje beschikt, en Alireza Jahanbakhsh is een twijfelgeval: “We moeten afwachten hoe fit hij is voor zondag. Alireza heeft de afgelopen dagen in Alkmaar doorgetraind met Martin Haar en Denny Landzaat”, zegt Van den Brom.

        Checked some updates from Dutch sites and according to them Jahanbakhsh could finally make the squad today vs. Willem II, but it's still uncertain.

                              I have only seen the highlights, as I went to NEC - Ajax, but I thought AZ looked better. They just failed to scored a goal, but they did have a lot of possibilities. There is improvement, so AZ will become better. JB playing again will be very helpful for AZ, though.

                                AZ seem to have signed a defensive midfielder from PEC Zwolle, Ben Rienstra. Seems like a solid player. Scored Six times last season and is very good statistically in terms of his passing (accuracy), etc. Could be a solid signing for AZ. Any of you guys know about him?
