        AZ heeft goede zaken gedaan in de strijd om de vierde plaats, de plek die recht geeft op rechtstreekse plaatsing voor Europees voetbal. Het team van John van den Brom was zondagmiddag met ruim verschil te sterk voor De Graafschap, dat door de nederlaag van SC Cambuur bij PSV in ieder geval rechtstreekse degradatie ontloopt maar wel tot de Jupiler League Play-Offs is veroordeeld: 4-1. AZ heeft deze voetbaljaargang het totaal aantal doelpunten uit het kampioensjaar 2008/09 overtroffen; 67 om 66. De voorsprong op nummer vijf FC Utrecht, de tegenstander van komende zondag, is drie punten, plus een doelsaldo van plus vier.De Graafschap kwam na enkele minuten al zeer verrassend op voorsprong in Alkmaar. Een voorzet werd recht in de voeten van Mark Diemers gekopt, die het leer rustig kon aannemen en in de verre hoek mikte; 0-1. Vijf minuten voor rust vergroottte Alireza Jahanbakhsh de voordelige marge van het team van Van den Brom. Robin Pröpper verspeelde de bal en dat gaf de mogelijkheid aan Dabney dos Santos om de bal af te geven aan Jahanbakhsh: 3-1.In de tweede helft waren er wat kansjes over en weer. AZ leek aanvankelijk vrede te hebben met de tussendstand, terwijl De Graafschap niet bij machte was om tot een aansluitingstreffer te komen. Celso Ortiz miste een zeer grote kans en een treffer van Nathaniel Will werd wegens buitenspel afgekeurd. Na goede mogelijkeden voor Vincent Vermeij en Janssen viel een kwartier voor tijd de 4-1: Jahanbakhsh gaf voor op Van Overeem, die net op tijd was en de vierde tegen de touwen kon glijden.

              The final match day for AZ is on Sunday 8 May against their direct concurrents FC Utrecht. They can afford to lose 2-0 and still directly qualify for Europa League because of better goal difference.

                            that is a clear sign of a vital player that management somewhat builds their team around and will not let go so easily without first seeing his full potential flourished..!!
                            oddly this season his game-times have been at the most inopportune times for my viewing, so I have hardly seen him in action except for highlight reels here n there..! but i get a feeling that he still hasnt fully recovered from his last year's season-ending injury..!!??
                            i think we will see a much improved, Fit and in-tune-with-AZ Alireza next season..!!
                            that is off course if AZ's squad doesnt get ravaged in the offseason like the last summer and loose a whole bunch of marquee players..!
                            its vital for ARJ n AZ to guarantee themselves some EU football for the next year ..! it looks well within their grasp too..!
