Sure, and where did we get by firing them? Firing them was the wrong decision (mostly Daei, GN blew it against a South Korea B team basically). Maybe we learned from our terrible mistake of firing a coach with a few games left in the last round of qualifying?
Either Ghotbi should have been hired from the beginning, or Daei should have been fired before the final round. Once he started the the final round, the best decision was to keep him (or any coach).
Anyway, that's a discussion for another day.
People take it hard when CQ comes and states the TRUTH about our football.
What has he ever said about the state of our football that was wrong? If anyone can give me one legitimate answer, I would be surprised..
Is he wrong about our pitches? Is he wrong about our clubs? Is he wrong about facilities? Is he wrong about infrastructure? Planning? Youth Development? Fitness? Mentality? Our officials' short sightedness? Selfishness? What is he wrong about?
People in these forums are very much like the Iranians in Iran. You can listen to them pick their country apart with everything that's wrong with it, but as soon as someone else says something negative, they get upset.
CQ isn't saying these things to have a laugh. He wants to make people aware of the shocking reality that is our football, which for some reason bothers everyone. If you want to pull the covers over your eyes and ignore what is going on around you, that is your option. However, don't try to fool anyone else that everything is great (or even average) in our football.
As for talent, I can only say one thing. People need to learn the difference between talent and potential.
Our players are brimming with potential. However talent is a different story, which involve maaaaaaaany different variables. And that talent will never be FULLY untapped until we solve our football's problems. The one that CQ mentions all the time and people mistake for "negativity".

Please let us know who should replace him ???? Just throw some names out there .... We all would love to have some high profile coach, not in their late 90's, willing to forgo salaries for months, deal with the IFF incompetency and deal with a bunch of rat faced hezbollahis on a daily basis ...they don't have to have blue eyes either..... just give us ONE name ..... ANY name.
and please don't tell us Mayeli Kohan is your choice. We all remember your 2 page essay you wrote a few years ago saying, "Desperate times requires desperate measures .... and MK is the answer to our problems" ......

To answer your first question, I think that he stayed for the same 2 reasons 99% of human beings stay at a job: because he receives a very competitive salary and because he feels appreciated. Imagine, every single country he visited with TM, waves of Iranians begged him to stay and supported him and gave him credit. Compare this to his prior experience in Portugal, where the Portuguese press lambasted him for not using Cristiano properly, or with his time at Man U, where, because Alex Ferguson refused to talk to the press, it was CQ's job to address the vicious British press every day and answer their absurd, insulting questions each and every day. In Man U CQ was always at odds with Roy Keane because CQ had so much power in coaching the team, and this created a stressful atmosphere too. Now, all the players obey him without question.
Simply put, the Iran job provides a coach like CQ with something he's never had before: an obedient set of players who respect him, and a fan base that adores him. Of course, he believes we have the potential to make the WC but we've always had that potential, regardless of what players are at his disposal.
I agree that our young players have a lot of potential. And I hope more than anything that Jahanbakhsh has the type of impact that Mahdavikia did. But so far, he hasn't matched what a young 20-22 year old Mahdavikia had achieved in the Bundesliga, and his role for team melli has yet to crystallize.
I think we both agree: there is a lot of potential, but the point is that potential doesn't equate to current abilities and my only point is that if CQ had talent like we'd had in prior generations, his results would be much better. I'm not saying our players aren't good, I'm saying that for iranian standards, we've had much much better so it's not fair to judge CQ without taking this fact into consideration.
CQ can drill the players, prepare them, ask for friendlies, etc, but at the end of the day, it takes that 1-2 seconds of quick thinking and reactions that GREAT players undergoing rigorous daily English/Italian/Spanish/German practices have (kia, hashemian, karimi, teymourian in his prime, nekounam) that makes the difference in international football.
If you look at past TMs, it was always moments of individual brilliance that won our greatest games, NOT being well-coached or organized defensively. Think about Daei's incredible through-ball to Azizi, Mahdavikia's incredible 1-on-1 run in WC98, Karimi's hat trick against SK, karimi's perfect cross to hashemian against Japan in 2005, nekounam's free kick against SK in WCQ2010 and all the goals we've scored off of set pieces (including Iran vs Mexico, Nekounam's goal against Saudi Arabia in WCQ2010, etc).
We had the players, but lacked the coaches. imagine if CQ had players like azizi, bagheri, daei, karimi etc in their prime!
I will finish off the back and forth now by saying I believe you're opinion of talent and proving ones self is just simply unrealistic. It seems to me that you're definition of talent is going to europe and performing at similar levels of mahdavikia and hashemian did. That my friend takes a lot of time.....so like I just said, time will tell if we have any stars on our hands or not. The signs look good to me and most other TM fans.Team Meli Iran

It slipped my mind that in some rare cases the head-coaches talk to each-other and make the lineup official, although I must emphasize that this phenomenon has nothing to do with a competition just being a friendly. Wrote it here because of the discussion going on in this thread.
I think cq wasted a good friendly with the selections he made before and during the game. But we don't know if it was to fire up the players who didnt deliver during the Oman game, or if it was to divert attention for the poor results from himself to the players , there are many possible reasons. As i wrote earlier he got some issues, but if u judge him from an overall perspective, my opinion is that he is very beneficial for our football.

Your football is full of shit, that is: shit players, shit coaches, shit facilities, shit management, shit ownership, shit media, shit fans. add to this list the massive Islamic corruption commonly in practice in that shit hole of a country..
picture what I just described and think about it for a few minutes. Understand the ramification of having so many SHIT aspects in our shitty country..
then consider that some fans come here to rant about the head coach and expect (demand) that the national team coach teach the national team players how to do a chest trap..
your national team player should have already been able to do simple chest trap and simple passes WAY WAY before he made it to the national team, but why can't he??? that's a question that you have to ask your talented IPL players and all those coaches who have worked with these talented players for years and years , day in and day out !!!

^ then if your football, national team players are all shit (I know mine are not) then why on earth are you spending this amount of money on a coach that YOU KNOW will not have any impact on improving your players?
Are you a lunatic to spend this kind of money but be happy when he achieves the same as the ''shit'' coaches?

I mean dude seriously its not rocket science loool
Either way the most important thing is the majority of the public as well as the players are behind him. End of discussion really.
Anyone who has even a slight idea of what goes on in iran knows hardly anyone pays tax. If anyone does, it is usually the lower middle class. Nobody that SHOULD, meaning the bastards who enjoy massive loans and contracts and deal and ... pay even a rail.
Now, to put it in simple English, it is time you all learned if anyone say ''my tax dollars'' they mean ''public funds''. Every expenditure in Iran is mainly from public funds.
If you think IFF is able to generate this kind of money, you please get your head examined.
So yes, it IS my money that is spent to pay the likes of CQ.

But we do have to be a little objective about the present (not past)... he's obviously not adding anything to our defense at this point (I mean we're getting scored identical goals) and he's not modernizing anything beyond what he has done and frankly how can he when the world of football has moved ahead in the last 5 years while he has been stuck in Iran!
And IMHO (and this is my opinion) his relationship with the IFF, even though he's right about a lot of things, is more of a drag at this point than a god sent. Sometimes you just have to let go of the old and tired (and you can tell CQ is completely burnt out at this point) and inject some fresh blood.
Let's face it, we can't just keep CQ forever because we're afraid of the notion of change and that change is always for the worse. Unfortunately, this has become a prevalent psyche in the Iranian population and why we've been stuck with the same crappy IR for so long.
Change is what brought us CQ and we should be promoting the same type of change for the better, rather than just running away from it IMHO or waiting until the point where that change will most certainly be for the worse, if not worst.

^ in a functional federation, "change" is good and sometimes needed. However, as we all know the history of our beloved football federation, a "change" is just an opportunity for a few corrupt people to find ways to funnel more money into their own pockets. Ofcourse sometimes they miss that opportunity and we end up with an inflexible and un-pushable coach like CQ. Coaches like Ghotbi or Branko are a dime-a-dozen. Strong willed coaches like CQ who have the guts to standup to the corrupt officials in IFF are hard to find.“It is easier to fool the people, than to convince them they have been fooled." - Mark Twain

Let's not even bring Ghalenoei into this, a so called coach who puts Enayati and Khatibi on the wings, that man is as big of a joke as you are. The fact that you compare those two amateur coaches to a professional coach such as Quieroz shows what a clown you are. Also as far as i remember i'm reading you post crap about every coach we have ever had at the helm of TM so far! I personally believe that you suffer from some sort of a mental illness.
