Who was Iran's best central defender of the past 35 years??

So this week's 90 poll asked people to vote for the best central defender after the revolution! (Seems history of Iran's football starts then for them). Panjali won by a good margin.

Hosseini is the most mistake free. Consistency is also amazing.

I voted Rezai out of the people I've personally watched play, although he did make the occasional bonehead mistake. Panjali also stands out in memory but I was fairly young when I watch him play and have never gone back to watch him on film, so can't really be sure.

as far as TM performances it has to be pashazadeh. I'll never forget when he literally put his head on the line to stop a shot from the australian forward to save TM. he had everything seyed jalal has but was definitely quicker and therefore was able to keep up with faster and quicker defenders.

rezaie is definitely the most accomplished CB in our history for having a successful serie a career but he never played quite as good for TM as he did for his clubs, similar to masoud in osasuna vs TM.

There only has been one Iranian who has played in Serie A in Italy as a defender, getting playing time for a few years - Rahman Rezai - that says something. He was the complete defender.

            From Wiki -

Rahman Rezaei is currently the most successful Asian defender in Europe. In the 2003/2004 season, he helped Messina gain promotion to Serie A. He had been one of Messina's most consistently used players with 36 appearances in their 2004–05 mid-table finish.[2] After steadily playing for his club for three seasons, at the end of August 2006 Rezaei signed with another Serie A club, Livorno.

He has won numerous plaudits in Italy and has been dubbed "The Flying Carpet". In addition, his fans in Messina have named him the "Secretary of Defense".

Yeah I agree, but the problem with Rezaei is that as good as he was, he sometimes made some unbelievable blunders..

Rezaei made 2 very costly blunders otherwise I would count him as the best.

1 - Horrible tackle for a stupid penalty against Ireland in Dublin (2001).
2 - Poor handling of ball in Mexico game (Mirzapour was also responsible) which led to goal number 2 for Mexico in WC 2006.

Hosseini is by far the most consistant defender we've ever had but I chose Yahya. I think he was the only defender that would sync up pretty well when we were attacking. I loved his style and dribbles.

Every time I think of Rezaei I think of this

I voted Bakhtiarizadeh, but in all seriousness i believe Jalal Hosseini has been our best central defender. I'm too young to remember Panjali though.

To be honest we've never really had a great CB. They were all OK, so it's hard to choose one that was the best.

To be honest I don't think I have seen many of these defenders that are on the list play, so for this reason my vote went to Rezaei. But I think Hosseini and him are pretty even.

these two mistakes unfortunately tarnished his reputation. the tackle in dublin...oh lord. if rezaei hadn't made that idiotic tackle we would ahve been in WC2002.
