Eligibility based on merits and quality has been replaced by Eligibility based of connection and backdoor deals.
Do you not think it might be because they are less than 1% of the population?

Not exactly because their combined population is at least 1% if not more. IR has not updated the real info for past 30 years. How many players 1% should represent in our leagues when IPL has 16 teams, Azadegan has 20 teams, and each team has 25 players in average. (16+20)*25=900 => at least 9 players for 1% but in fact there is not even 1 now.

I am telling you this because I know they deny many minorities based on their religion from playing in clubs. I knew someone who was a member of SS youth team but was sent off later when they found out about his religion. He played football damn good. (I won't mention his name). There must be more stories about this.

Dude...as you say 1% out of 80 million people. How many of that 1% are even footballers, let alone at elite level?! Beside Ando, we've had Edmond Bezik, Markar Aghajanian and few more to mention. All of the mentioned, at some point, played in TM too! There is a lot of shit and discrimination in Iran but one thing we can all be proud of and that is respecting the ethnic minorities and freedom of religion! We've had that since 2500 years ago and that's something that not even IR has been able to take away from us. Bahaiis are the only ethnic group that IR has been discriminating.

For all we know, we might have a lot of Jews and Zoroastrians playing in IPL. The thing with them is that their names are not as distinguishing as Armenians. Most of them have pure Persian names which makes it hard to tell.

You're not going to get even representation in sports. Most athletes come from poor families.
Good or bad, most Jewish, Zoroastrian and Bahai families are well off financially. They push their kids into academics and/or have them leave the country.

You are damn wrong. Christians, Jews, Bahais, and Zoroastrians are just like other Iranians, they have rich and poor. This is just wrong to assume they are all well of. The example that I said was poor from south of Tehran. He was playing for Esteghlal and got kicked out for his religion.

9 persons in both league right now is 1%, and not in a span of 20 years. Edomnd Bezik and Aghajanian are from 20-15 years ago not now.

Bold part: If you live in Iran you know the bold part is not true now. IR is discriminating even against Sunni Muslims let alone Jews, Zoroastrian, Christian coverts, or Bahais. Fortunately or unfortunately in my big extended family I have relatives who are Shia Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Zoroastrian and Bahai. I have been informed pretty well how IR has been treating every single one of this groups.
