This is definitely one my biggest critiques of CQ. It wasn't a good move to omit KB from the squad. By dropping him we lacked a lot of creativity. I don't understand why he couldn't even be considered an option. Yes, he's not a physical defender, but we saw in that highlight vs Russia when he took the ball from the defender-- very oppurtunistic. He also has that speed and creativity which would've been valuable in those counter attack situations against Argentina, Nigeria, Bosnia. Better than Shojaei or Ansarifard imo.

First of all it had nothing to do with Khalatbari's physics or him not fitting to CQ tactics, else he wouldn’t have been invited so often prior to the WC to begin with. CQ said that one of the most difficult decisions in his coaching life was the exclusion of Khalatbari and he brought up physical fitness as the reason. Khalatbari missed almost half of the season prior joining Perspolis, spend some matches on the bench and couldn’t fully reach his top form until the end of the season. This is why CQ decided to cut him off in the last minute as he believed other players are much more prepared.

Khalatbari complained, but apologized later on, however there was no room for him anymore. I also missed him at the WC, but not anymore. He is aging and it's showing in the league already, while TM is starting a new era. Too bad he was discovered so late and ended up as another wasted talent....just like the likes of Arash Afshin.

It's a wishful thinking to claim lack of players were the only reason why we didn’t went to the next round. I expect such a comment from a guy like MK who said with Rahmati and Aghili we would have managed it lol. Azmoun was not ready for the WC; he wasn’t the player he is now. The pressure would have been too much on him, even in the Asian Cup he couldn’t play a full match and two times got injured in the 2nd half instead.

Time to get over some issues and please don't spread misinformation. Hindsight is easier than foresight....
I don't know if I would call Afshin a wasted talent just yet. We definitely missed out on his potential, but he can still be a useful player for us.

He missed most parts of 2.5 seaons because of injury, and 1 season because of sarbazi issue. So far he has had a decent start to this season (has missed 5 games or so).

Does anyone know his situation? Is he eligible for TM (if he plays better and stays healthy) or is he in the same boat as Soroush, Abdollazadeh, etc...?

Pretty sure he is in the same case as Rafiei, Rahmani etc.. Not even sure when those guys will be back, maybe at the end of the season or even at the start of 2016 although it's wishful thinking.

Unfortunately he isn't the player he used to be, it's incredible for me how much of a great talent he looked like in 2011 and how much his abilities dropped now...

I really love KB, I'm still completely confused as to how he didn't get picked up in Europe.

            Hes not injury prone
            hes fast AF
            hella skills
doesn't seem to be aggressive or anything
I feel like he must have declined some offers from Europe at some point.

I don't know if his abilities dropped, we just haven't had a chance to see him for 3 years. He didnt play at all last year because of sarbazi, and he missed 90% of the last two seasons to injury.

If he stays healthy this year, my prediction is that he will be in the top 5 in goals.

before people talking about his qualities (speed , creativity etc. ) and referring to the iran - russia game.. keep in mind that its a game from almost 5 years ago.

He got to his top form when he was 27! A bit late for going to Europe since a 27 year old wont progress much anymore! He will just gain experience! European clubs know that too! The only players we had who went to Europe at later ages were Daei, Karimi and Nekounam when they were 26 but they were special cases. Both Nekounam and Karimi were known and watched by the European clubs when they were much younger. Unfortunately that was not the case with Khalatbari.

It's funny that now CQ claims there aren't any players in Iran who can go forward with the ball when he himself either puts them aside or doesn't invite them! Very interesting video about TM problems, CQ so called disease etc. in footballitarin:

This is why CQ got rid of KB. Things like he did today in the hazfi semi final:

Exactly, and what did the coach say today "I am not going to punish Khalatbari just for one mistake". This is a difference between a 3rd rated coach and someone like CQ who does not put up with this sort of BS and hashieh!!

The difference is CQ has 10 other options & Stimach has jack. If CQ was in Stimac's shoes he would have also accepted KB's apology.

i am not so sure, big coaches dont let players ride them, you saw alex fergeuson did not accept beckam apology and sold him, and he is was a key player, also the difference between branko and cq and other big coaches, is that they can bring displine and order while others cant we saw in 2006

He had a trial with a bundesliga team....i forgot who....but he failed the physical

I think thats probably another problem for most our players, while they CAN be playing top Euro league football, they might not pass physicals because of extensive training and practice regimens. There's more emphasis on fitness these days than finesse and being technical with the ball.

Our league needs to get better at doing professional training. Kinda like CQ does with TM...i was impressed at our TM under CQ....they can actually last a fulll 90 min as opposed all other TM coaches that fell apart after 70th min.
