I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

Sepahan with a solid win which could have been by more goals. And big win by a young ZA team away against a mighty QSL team stacked with foreign stars

Full respect to Zob Ahan and Sepahan, who played smart, solid football. However to suddenly say we are levels above QSL due to these wins is just as wrong as saying QSL is levels above PGL (not that you said that).

They are ahead of us in some areas, we are ahead of them in some areas, and our leagues are basically the same level. However, they are quickly advancing in their weak areas, while we are improving our weak areas at a MUCH slower pace, if at all. Every year they are improving their league at a much higher pace than us, and eventually something has to give on our side.

They win some, we win some, neither league gets too far into the tournament on a consistent basis (although QSL has gotten a hair farther than us in the last few editions if I remember correctly). I don't count the ACL title that Al-Saad won because in reality we beat them home and away, so that title was not earned.

Until we start beating them consistently on a club level, and get farther than them in this tournament, our leagues are at a similar level, give or take, IMO.

            Today was a good start.

*Side Note* Everything I mentioned in this post is only about club and league, I'd leave national team out of this.

Well done Zobahan and Sepahan. Thank you for making us proud with such beautiful and dominant display. Sepahan should have easily bagged 4-5 goals, had they been more precise on their last touches, Khalat's weird shot in front of the goal was quite bafflesome for a player of his caliber!

Zobahan pulled a stunner by beating Lekhviya in an away match, going by the highlights, even after scoring the goaal, they kept of pressing and attacking, which was a breath of fresh air amongst our teams, as most our teams in crucial matches upon a one goal lead pull back and start defending all the way. Enjoy both these matches and the sweet wins!

For some weird reason, I am not too optimistic about tomorrow's TS match, they've been inconsistent this season, plus they just haven't impressed in their previous adventures of ACL. Hopefully they will prove me wrong tomorrow!

Agreed. As a matter of fact, until 9-10 years ago in our ACL journeys our teams often beat these Persian gulf states teams quite at ease and with bigger margin goals, whereas nowadays it's almost at a 50-50 status, meaning half the time our clubs win and half the time we lose. Which precisely sums up what youjust mentioned in your above post. That big gap there used to be between our league and theirs is now closing real fast, if not already gone!

                  I don't agree guys.
We have always had problems with Persian Gulf area countries in Asian Champions League and Asian Champions Cup back in the day.
They always had good foreign players and spent alot of money to win the damn things, when back then most Iranian clubs didn't even have an office.

Truthfully this tournament is not a good measure of quality. Its only a measure of how much money clubs can waste.

I wasn't old enough to follow the acl at that time but just now looking at wiki it seems the gap you speak of never existed. Iranian clubs have had the overall advantage over Persian gulf clubs but it has always been close. Their clubs have always had money which has made up for their lack of talent.

This is where the over the top reactions come from when an Iranian team loses. People here seem to think there was a day that Iranian clubs were easily beating Saudi, UAE, and Qatari clubs regularly 6-0 but that day never existed.
